A-League: City and Victory set for derby clash

The first big Melbourne derby of the season will take place on Saturday night when City and Victory clash at AAMI Park.

Both sides have set their sights on winning the grand final this season, so there is more than local pride and bragging rights at stake.

Victory can be backed at 5.50 to win the grand final, while City are 6.00.

Elsewhere, Adelaide United will play their first game of the season against Central Coast Mariners, while Perth Glory entertain Wellington Phoenix.

Glory were thrashed 6-1 in week 1 and will be out to restore some pride at HBF Park.

They can be backed at 4.00 to land the wooden spoon this season.

City up and running

Melbourne City got their season up and running with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Newcastle and will now look to back it up with another three points.

Marco Tilio got the only goal of the game after just two minutes and he can be backed at 4.00 to score at anytime of Saturday.

City will be missing Jimmy Jeggo for the clash after he was sent off against the Jets.

Victory were happy to settle for a point in a goalless draw away at Central Coast Mariners.

It could be another tight, low-scoring affair in the derby clash, and under 2.5 goals can be backed at 2.10, while both teams to score is 1.61.

Reds raring to go

Adelaide had a disappointing season in 2023/24 and will be desperate to bounce back in the campaign ahead.

The Reds have brought in Dylan Pierias and the new signing believes his new team are well equipped to challenge for the title.

Pierias, who arrived from Western Sydney Wanderers, can be backed at 3.60 to score at anytime in the games.

The Mariners began their title defence with a 0-0 draw against Melbourne Victory, and will be out to pick up their first three points.

There have been some high-scoring games between these two in the past and over 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 1.57.

Glory need a response

Perth Glory suffered a humiliating 6-1 loss away at Macarthur FC in week one and will be desperate to bounce back.

Their defending, as the scoreline suggests, was woeful, but at least Adam Taggart managed to get up and running with a goals.

Last season’s leading goalscorer in the A-League, can be backed at 6.00 to score the first goal of the game.

Wellington Phoenix drew 1-1 with Western United and will sense a good opportunity to take all three points this week.

They can be backed at 9.50 to edge a tight game 2-1.
