A-League: City hold no fear for Nix

A-League ladder-leaders Wellington Phoenix head to Melbourne City on Saturday looking to consolidate top spot.

The games are ticking away and the Phoenix are showing no signs of slowing down as they attempt to wrap up the minor premiership.

They are three points clear at the top, but have Central Coast breathing down their necks, so need to keep the wins coming.

Melbourne Victory will be aiming to bounce back from two defeats on the trot when they travel to take on Adelaide United in the ‘Original Rivalry’.

In Saturday’s third game of the day Perth Glory entertain Newcastle Jets and will also be out to return to winning ways.

Phoenix march on

. What: Melbourne City v Wellington Phoenix
. Where: AAMI Park, Melbourne
. When: 18:00 (AEST), Saturday 9th March 2024
. How to watch: Paramount+
. Odds: Melbourne City 1.90, Draw 3.80, Wellington Phoenix 3.75

Wellington Phoenix continue to go from strength to strength and are looking good after winning three of their last four games.

They are not blowing teams off the park, and there have been some close encounters, but it is the three points that matter and Phoenix are picking up plenty.

It was a close one when the two sides met in November, Phoenix winning it 1-0, and under 2.5 goals in Saturday’s game can be backed at 2.15.

A trip to take on Melbourne City would normally be a daunting task, but the home side are out of sorts this season, sitting eighth on the ladder.

They have won just three of their nine home games this season, but do have Jamie Maclaren in their ranks, who is priced at 3.75 to score the first goal.

Victory need a response

. What: Adelaide United v Melbourne Victory
. Where: Coopers Stadium, Adelaide
. When: 19:15 (AEST), Saturday 9th March 2024
. How to watch: Paramount+, 10Bold
. Odds: Adelaide United 3.00, Draw 3.50, Melbourne Victory 2.30

Melbourne Victory are seeing their minor premiership hopes slip away after suffering two defeats on the bounce.

Conceding three in the defeat to Brisbane Storm will also have set some alarm bells ringing and Victory will be keen to bounce back at Coopers Stadium.

Victory did beat Adelaide 2-0 at AAMI Park back in December, but the three games before that all finished in a 1-1 draw.

Melbourne have drawn seven on the road this season, and another 1-1 draw on Saturday can be backed at 7.00.

Adelaide are having a season to forget and Coopers has not been the fortress they were hoping for. They have won just four out of 11 games on home soil.

Draw specialists clash

. What: Perth Glory v Newcastle Jets
. Where: HBF Park, Perth
. When: 20:45 (AEST), Saturday 9th March 2024
. How to watch: Paramount+
. Odds: Perth Glory 2.15, Draw 3.50, Newcastle Jets 3.30

Glory saw their recent revival come to an abrupt end when they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Western United last week.

But back on home soil, they will feel confident of getting the three points.

The two sides have met on two occasions already this season, and both games ended in 2-2 draws.

Indeed the last four games between the two have ended 2-2. The same again can be backed at 10.00, while over 2.5 goals in the game is 1.47.

Stefan Colakovski has scored in the last two games against the Jets and is 3.50 to score anytime on Saturday.
