A-League: Inconsistent Wanderers ready for Macarthur test

Inconsistency has been the recent issue for Western Sydney Wanderers but they are favourites to kick-start the new year with a victory over Macarthur FC at CommBank Stadium.

Whether they can bag the three points on home soil on New Year's Day remains to be seen but they do face Macarthur at a good time.

Having lost their last two A-League games against Wellington Phoenix and Perth Glory, Macarthur have a job on their hands to turn things around on their short trip to the Wanderers.

Wanderers searching for rhythm

With a draw, two defeats and a win in their last four A-League outings, it’s fair to say that consistency has been the issue for Mark Rudan’s Wanderers in recent weeks.

However, it has still been a positive start to the season for Western Sydney, as they find themselves in third place on the ladder at the time of writing.

The New Year’s Day game looks like a good opportunity to get back to winning ways and make a flying start to 2024 for the Wanderers.

Macarthur have been on the wrong end of a 4-0 hiding on their last two visits to CommBank Stadium and the same scoreline is available at 29.00 on Monday.

The more conservative might well look to a home victory to nil to happen for the third time in a row in this particular fixture at CommBank Stadium and that’s also available at 3.75.

Macarthur desperate to rediscover form

Having gone on a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions, Macarthur have hit a wall with those back-to-back defeats to Wellington and Perth.

Previously keeping clean sheets in their previous two games against Sydney and Dynamic Herb Cebu, Mile Sterjovski’s side have gone on to concede six goals in their last two games.

Sat in fifth place in the standings, it has still been a strong start to the season for Macarthur but they won’t want to see this losing run extend into a third week running.

The visitors are 4.10 to cause an upset and claim the three points at CommBank Stadium, while a stalemate on the evening is 4.20

Valere Germain has enjoyed a positive start to the campaign and is joint-top goalscorer in the league at Macarthur with four.

The 33-year-old is available at 3.20 to score Anytime and 8.00 to bag the opening goal of the game to start the new year.

Defender Matthew Millar, who also has found the back of the net four times already this season in the A-League, is 5.00 to score Anytime.
