A-League: Mariners and City set for crucial showdown

Central Coast Mariners will need to bounce back quickly against Melbourne City on Tuesday to keep their minor premiership hopes alive.

The Mariners suffered a 2-0 defeat against Sydney FC at the weekend and now sit six points behind ladder-leaders Wellington Phoenix.

They do have a game in hand though, and three points against Melbourne City is an absolute must.

Central Coast are now 2.25 to go on and win the minor premiership, with Phoenix available at 1.72.

City are also in need of the three points as they look to secure their place in the top six and play finals.

They sit in seventh, one point behind sixth, and with games fast running out, three points will be the order of the day.

Melbourne City can be backed at 9.00 to go on and win the grand final.

Mariners must bounce back

The Mariners saw a five-game winning streak come to an end as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Sydney FC.

It was their sixth defeat of the season and they now have to win their remaining games and hope Wellington Phoenix slip up if they are to claim top spot.

They do have a good record against Melbourne City and are unbeaten in the last four games against them.

The two sides have already played at Central Coast Stadium this season, with the Mariners running out 2-1 winners back in January.

A repeat scoreline can be backed at 9.00 and the Mariners would definitely settle for that.

Angel Torres was also on the scoresheet in that game and is sure to be a threat once again.

The Colombian has 11 goals for the season and is priced at 7.00 to score the first goal of the game, or 3.00 to grab one at anytime.

City pushing for top six

Melbourne City had to settle for a point in a very disappointing goalless draw against struggling Newcastle on Saturday.

It was definitely a case of two points dropped, and with just five games of the regular season remaining, they can ill-afford any more slip ups.

The games between the two sides have seen plenty of goals this season. As well as suffering a 2-1 defeat, City also drew 3-3 with the Mariners in December.

Another high-scoring game could be on the cards with over 2.5 goals available at 1.61, while both teams to score can be backed at 1.57.

Jamie MacLaren may not have been as prolific this season, but always remains a big threat, and is 4.75 to get the first goal of the game.
