A-League: Mariners closing on top six

Central Coast Mariners will be looking to edge closer to the top six when they entertain Perth Glory on Sunday.

The Mariners, who are the reigning premiers, have recovered from a horror start to the season and are unbeaten in the last five games.

They currently sit three points away from the finals spots and if they carry on in the same form, they should soon be in there.

Perth Glory have had a tough start to the season, and are one of the contenders to end up with the wooden spoon.

However after a stunning fightback against Macarthur, that saw them come from 2-0 down to win 3-2, they should be high on confidence.

Winning away from Perth has been an issue for them, but they will fancy their chances of ending the drought on the Central Coast, a place that has been a happy hunting ground for them.

Mariners scoring goals for fun

The Mariners have recovered well from losing the first four games of the season and now look to be back on track.

They are unbeaten in the last five matches, winning three of them, and they will be out to make that four against Glory.

One of their opening defeats came in Perth when they slipped to a 2-0 defeat, but they should be a different proposition on home soil.

Central Coast have seen off Western United and Newcastle Jets at home, while they also fought out a 2-2 draw with Melbourne Victory.

They have also found their touch in front of goal when scoring 10 goals over the last three games.

Angel Torres is the man of the moment when scoring five goals in the last two games, and he will be a big threat again on Sunday.

The strike ace can be backed at 2.87 to score at anytime against Glory.

Over 2.5 goals in the game can also be backed at 1.47.

Glory out to cause upset

Despite their struggles in recent seasons, Glory do have a great record when it comes to playing Central Coast Mariners.

Indeed they have not lost in the last six games against them, although four of them have ended in draws.

On their last visit in October 2022, they ran out 2-1 winners, and the previous two trips saw them fight out 1-1 and 2-2 draws.

With that in mind, Glory should have the belief that they can get another result at Central Coast Stadium this weekend.

Glory have only won two games this season and both have been in Perth. The latest saw them beat Macarthur 3-2 and they should still be on a high from that fightback.

Adam Taggart did not score in that game, but still remains the biggest threat for Glory. He is priced at 3.20 to score at anytime.
