A-League: Melbourne Victory Focus

Melbourne Victory will be out to bounce back from grand final heartbreak in the new A-League season.

Victory were moments away from grand final success in 2023/24, only for Central Coast Mariners to score two late goals to secure the victory.

It resulted in Tony Popovic stepping aside as head coach, and Victory now have a new leader in the form of former Melbourne City boss Patrick Kisnorbo.

Hopes are high heading into the season and Victory can be backed at 5.50 to make up for the disappointment of last season by winning the grand final.

Let’s take a look at how Victory are shaping up with the 2024/25 A-League campaign fast approaching.

. What: 2024/25 A-League season
. Where: Venues across Australia and New Zealand
. When: October 2024 to May 2025
. How to watch: Paramount+, Channel 10
. Odds: Melbourne Victory 5.50 to win grand final

Kisnorbo to lead the way

It came as something of a surprise when Victory announced that Patrick Kisnorbo would be the man to replace Tony Popovic as head coach.

Kisnorbo was a huge success with Victory’s arch rivals, Melbourne City, guiding them to both premiership and championship success.

However all that will not matter one bit to the Victory supporters if the former Socceroos star can bring the same success to their club.

Kisnorbo has proven himself, and with a strong Victory squad at his disposal, it is no surprise they are one of the hot fancies to do well this season.

Victory can be backed at 4.50 to win the minor premiership and look sure to be in the hunt for silverware.

Kisnorbo has promised that Victory will play fast, attacking football in the campaign ahead, so it looks sure to be an exciting season for the supporters.

Victory bring in 10 signings

It has been a busy off-season for Victory, who have brought in 10 new signings to bolster their squad.

A number of the new arrivals have experience of playing in the A-League and should be able to hit the ground running.

They include Reno Piscopo, who has played for Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets, and operates as a left-winger.

Former Victory central defender Brendan Hamill is back at the club following a stint oversees, while former Perth Glory star Josh Rawlins also returns to the A-League.

Victory have also brought in some foreign talent to bolster the squad.

Greek striker Nikolaos Vergos will add more firepower to the side after signing from Atromitos, while 21-year-old forward Jing Reec arrives from Danish side Aarhus.

When you add those players to a squad that also includes the like of Bruno Fornaroli and Daniel Arzani, it is easy to see why the Victory faithful are excited.

Tough start for Victory

Victory have a tough start to the new season when they open up with games against Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne City.

Victory have a chance to gain some revenge for the grand final defeat, and are priced at 3.30 to beat the Mariners in Gosford.

The home side are 2.15, while the draw is available at 3.30.

Then they are away from home in the first big derby clash of the season against Melbourne City on 26th October.
