A-League: Phoenix out to avoid banana skin

Wellington Phoenix sit three points clear at the top of the A-League ladder as they prepare to tackle Adelaide United on Sunday.

The Nix are on course to secure the minor premiership, and can be backed at 2.62 to still be top at the end of the regular season.

However there is still work to be done and there can be no room for complacency against an Adelaide side that sit in 10th.

Melbourne Victory will be hoping that Phoenix slip up, which would present the opportunity for them to close the gap by winning at Brisbane Roar.

Victory are in third, six points off top and are 4.50 to win the minor premiership.

Brisbane on the other hand have not given up on the top six, so there is all to play for.

Nix seek home comforts

. What: Wellington Phoenix v Adelaide United
. Where: Sky Stadium, Auckland
. When: 14:00 (AEST), Sunday 3rd March 2024
. How to watch: Paramount+
. Odds: Wellington Phoenix 2.10, Draw 3.75, Adelaide United 3.20

Phoenix were made to work hard against a rejuvenated Perth Glory side last weekend and had to settle for a point in the west.

Back on home soil, they will be out for the three points to consolidate top spot.

Their home form has been good, losing just once against a Newcastle side that sprung a 3-0 surprise.

The Nix also fought out a 2-2 draw in Adelaide back in January with Kosta Barbarouses getting both goals.

However the forward is unavailable and Oskar Zawada could be the biggest threat in front of goal. The striker can be backed at 2.10 to score at anytime.

Adelaide United have not won in the last five and the top six is now out of sight. They continue to concede too many goals, which has been their downfall this season.

Over 2.5 goals in Sunday’s game can be backed at 1.53, while both teams to score is available at 1.44.

Victory need a response

. What: Brisbane Roar v Melbourne Victory
. Where: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
. When: 16:00 (AEST), Sunday 3rd March 2024
. How to watch: Paramount+, 10Bold
. Odds: Brisbane Roar 3.20, Draw 3.80, Melbourne Victory 2.10

Melbourne Victory will be looking to bounce back after suffering a 1-0 home defeat against Central Coast Mariners last weekend.

The loss of Bruno Fornaroli due to international duty and injury has hit them hard and they will be hoping he has recovered from a hand injury in time to play.

Fornaroli can be backed at 4.75 to score the first goal of the game if he does start.

Victory’s last two trips to Brisbane have ended in a draw, and considering they have drawn 10 games already this season, another is a possibility. A 1-1 result at Suncorp can be backed at 7.50.

The last five games between the two sides have been very low scoring. A 1-1 draw back in March 2022 was the highest scoring game between them.

If it is cagey again, under 2.5 goals is available at 2.25.
