A-League preview: City need Reds response

Melbourne City are in desperate need of three points if they are to have any chance of winning the minor premiership this season.

City’s season of struggle continued after slipping to another defeat at the weekend and they are now seven points off the top of the ladder.

They are priced at 6.00 to win the minor premiership but need to find some consistency if they are to have a chance.

The same can be said of Thursday’s opponents Adelaide United, who like City, have 18 points for the season so far.

The Reds are 17.00 to be top of the pile come the end of the regular season.

But first things first, both teams need to start winning sooner rather than later, starting at AAMI Park.

City suffer back-to-back defeats

Just when it looked like Melbourne City were starting to string some results together, they have lost back-to-back games.

Both games have been tight, 1-0 at home to Western Sydney Wanderers and 2-1 away at Central Coast Mariners, but a defeat is a defeat.

City only lost three games last season as they won the title, but they have already suffered five defeats in this campaign.

They have struggled to score as many goals, while they have also leaked far too many.

Adelaide have scored a few more, but also have a leaky defence, so over 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 1.36, while both teams to score is available at 1.40.

While they have Jamie MacLaren in the side, Melbourne City are always a threat in front of goal and the striker is 1.61 to score at anytime.

He is also priced at 3.60 to get the first of the game.

Adelaide on the up

Adelaide United have shown some signs of improvement and are now undefeated in the last three, winning one and drawing two.

They did not play at the weekend but edged a seven-goal thriller the week before when beating Sydney FC 4-3.

The Reds did their best to throw it away however as they were leading 4-1 with 14 minutes to go and almost let Sydney back in.

Hiroshi Ibusuki was the star of the show for Adelaide when scoring a hat-trick and he is 3.50 to score at anytime.

Adelaide have beaten City 6-0 and 4-2 in the last two games, but both of them were at Coopers’ Stadium.

The last time they made the trip to AAMI Park it finished 3-3 so goals are usually on the cards when these two meet.

Another 3-3 result can be backed at 29.00.
