A-League: Phoenix riding high ahead of Western clash

Wellington Phoenix will fancy their chances of continuing their strong start to the season when they take on struggling Western United on Saturday.

Western are propping up the rest of the A-League after a poor start to the season, while the Phoenix are sitting joint-top along with Western Sydney Wanderers.

Phoenix are priced at 13.00 to win the minor premiership, but there is a long way to go, with just five games played so far.

But, as we're all aware, anything can happen in the A-League and Western are capable of upsetting the form book.

In the other game on Saturday, Sydney FC will be looking for just their second win of the season when they entertain a Perth Glory side that are just one point above them.

Western United coach John Aloisi will be feeling the pressure big time following a fourth straight defeat at the weekend.

Aloisi may have won a grand final with Western, but that now seems a long way away as they sit bottom of the ladder with just three points. They have also scored just three goals all season and conceded 11.

Western are priced at 5.00 to finish the season bottom and are in desperate need of a boost against Wellington Phoenix.

United are struggling to score goals, while Phoenix have also been involved in a couple of low-scoring affairs this season. Under 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 2.25.

Phoenix do have a great record when facing Western in Melbourne, winning three of the last four trips, including a 3-0 win last season.

They also have Oskar Zawada, who has fired home four goals this season, while Bozhidar Kraev has three. They can be backed at 2.37 and 3.20 respectively to score at anytime.

New Sydney FC boss Ufuk Talay came back down to earth following a 1-0 defeat against Western Sydney in the derby last week and needs a response from his team against Perth Glory.

The harbour city outfit showed what they are capable of with a 5-1 win over Adelaide the game before and need more of the same.

They won this fixture 4-1 last season and over 2.5 goals in Saturday’s game can be backed at 1.50.

Joe Lolley is always a threat from midfield, as his two goals against Adelaide showed. The former Nottingham Forest ace can be backed at 6.50 to score the first goal of the game.

Glory have four points this season, but they have been picked up on home soil, meaning they have lost three on the road.

They were in Sydney just a couple of weeks ago and gave the Wanderers a run for their money before losing 2-0. Last weekend they lost 2-1 at Brisbane Roar.

If anyone is to score for Glory, Adam Taggart is the man and can be backed at 2.87 to score at anytime.
