A-League: Strike stars key in big derby clash

Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory will go head-to-head in the big derby clash on Saturday, with the home side in desperate need of a win.

For once it is City doing the chasing as they are seventh on the ladder, six points behind Victory, who sit in fourth spot.

There is still a long way to go in the season but City are priced at 8.00 to win the grand final, while Victory are one of the hot fancies at 4.00.

Sydney FC will be out to cement their place in the top six against an Adelaide side who are seeing their finals hopes slip away.

In the third game on Saturday, Perth Glory will be out to keep their recent revival going when they face Brisbane Roar at HBF Park.

Sydney are unbeaten in the last four games, winning two of them, including a very impressive 3-1 win at Central Coast Mariners last weekend.

The Mariners had been in hot form, but Sydney blew them away with three goals in the opening 20 minutes.

It was a welcome win after back-to-back draws, and they will be keen to kick on against an Adelaide side that have won just one game on the last five.

They rescued a point in a 3-3 thriller with Perth Glory last Friday and they continue to ship goals at an alarming rate.

A high-scoring game looks to be on the cards again and over 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 1.33, while both teams to score is 1.36.

Melbourne City have lost four of the last five games, and alarms bells will be sounding after they were hammered 5-1 by Brisbane Roar.

They also lost 4-2 at Perth Glory the week before, and look a shadow of the team that has dominated the A-League in recent seasons.

Victory also need to bounce back from their first defeat of the season last week when they went down 1-0 against Macarthur.

There are plenty of sharp-shooters on the pitch however, so there could be goals. And whoever brings their shooting boots will win the game.

City striker Jamie Maclaren can be backed at 2.20 to score at anytime, while Victory’s Bruno Fornaroli is 2.40.

Perth Glory are on a roll as they are unbeaten in the last four games and have picked up two big wins against Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers.

It should have been three but they conceded deep into stoppage time in a 3-3 draw with Adelaide United.

Adam Taggart was on target again and now has 10 goals for the season. He can be backed at 5.50 to grab the first goal on Saturday night.

Roar had been struggling but then smashed Melbourne City 5-1 last weekend, so should be on a high still.

It is all set up for a high-scoring game and over 2.5 goals can be backed at 1.44.
