A-League: Sydney rivals set to renew hostilities

Topping the A-League ladder is surely beyond the boundaries of possible for both Macarthur and Western Sydney Wanderers, but they have top-six aspirations to focus on ahead of Monday's showdown at Campbelltown Stadium.

After 22 games, Macarthur are four points clear of the Wanderers, owing to their ability to grind out some draws. They've both won nine times, but Western Sydney have lost nine times, whereas their derby hosts have only been beaten five times.

Macarthur are 1.10 to finish in the top six this season, with Western Sydney priced at 1.72 ahead of this tussle, and both clubs will now that a positive outcome here would be a major step towards that goal.

Macarthur have their tails up again

The hosts come into this one in good spirits after their come-from-behind win over Brisbane Roar a fortnight ago.

Florin Berenguer scored the opener but Macarthur responded with strikes from Tomislav Uskok and Raphael Borges to turn it around before the half-time break and that is where the scoring ended.

It was just their second win in the last five, however, and consistency has been an issue for The Bulls this season under Mile Sterjovski.

Wanderers for their part snapped a three-game losing A-League sequence with a 2-1 success on the road at Perth Glory.

Brandon Borrello and Lachlan Brook were the scorers, either side of Adam Taggart's strike for the home side.

Borrello is 7.00 to break the deadlock in this clash, with Brook at 8.50. For the hosts, Valere Germain is in the mix at 6.50 to net first.

Goals likely to flow in

When these clubs duelled for the first time this season at CommBank Stadium in January, the home side ran out 3-1 winners in the round 10 clash on New Year's Day.

Marcus Antonsson put them ahead on three minutes and it was two courtesy of Aidan Simmons soon after, though they only made sure of the wins six minutes from the end when Valentino Yuel scored.

They met again in round 15 at Campbelltown and, once more, goals were in ready supply as the hosts edged a seven-goal thriller.

A see-saw first half had Western Sydney in front 3-2 at half-time but Germain hauled his side level on 49 minutes and the French ace completed his hat-trick in the 93rd minute to get the win.

Germain is 41.00 to repeat those scoring heroics by netting three or more this time, while a repeat 4-3 win for Macarthur trades at 51.00.

Germain has been a real game-changer for Macarthur this season. He is their top scorer with 11 goals, which is tied for the fourth highest among the league's top scorers in 2023/2024, three of which have been the crucial first of the match.

Brook and Nicolas Milanovic have been Western Sydney Wanderers' main attacking threats, scoring eight and seven times, respectively.

The previous five meetings of these clubs has seen the Over 2.5 Total Goals landed and that outcome is 1.44 this time.

Stalemate a possibility in derby tussle

The rivalry between these Sydney-based rivals always helps make for a spicy affair. With both clubs struggling for consistency, the draw must be a realistic possibility now.

In their last six league matches, Macarthur have won three, drawn one and lost two. Wanderers have won two and lost four in their last six.

The hosts have four wins, five draws, and three losses at home this season. On the road, Wanderers have five wins, two draws and four defeats.

This has the hallmarks of a high-scoring affair and the 2-2 draw is priced at 11.00 for the Easter Monday clash.
