A-League: Victory and United clash in ‘Original Rivalry’

Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United clash in the ‘Original Rivalry’ on Saturday, while Newcastle Jets also entertain Western United.

Despite Victory being a Victoria-based club, and Adelaide a South Australian side, the rivalry between the two clubs is massive.

The rivalry grew after Victory beat United in both the 2007 and 2009 grand finals, and there is no love lost between the two sides.

We could be in for another fierce game on Saturday with Victory in second spot on the ladder, while Adelaide are down in sixth and need to start winning.

Victory can be backed at 4.00 to win the minor premiership, Adelaide United, 10.00.

Meanwhile, Western United are priced at 3.50 to finish bottom of the A-League and they are in need of a big result when they travel to take on the Jets.

OddsNewcastle Jets 2.15, Draw 3.60, Western United 3.20

Newcastle Jets and Western United have won just two games each so far this season and a place in the top six seems light years away.

The Jets find themselves three points clear of Western after managing to pick up three draws. Western have lost the other seven games they have played in.

Conceding goals has also been an issue for both sides. No other teams in the A-League have conceded more.

The Jets have let in 19, Western 21, so we should be expecting goals at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Over 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 1.60.

Western do have a great record against Newcastle and have lost just once in the last six games against them.

However they are struggling to score goals this season and have hit the back of the net just seven times.

There are no such issues for the Jets, who have 15. Saying that they would be in big trouble without Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, who has scored seven of them.

The strike ace can be backed at 2.40 to score at anytime on Saturday.

OddsMelbourne Victory 1.70, Draw 4.50, Adelaide United 4.20

Four of the last six games between Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United have finished in a 1-1 draw, including both games played at AAMI Park last season.

Another 1-1 draw this weekend can be backed at 9.00.

Victory have been the draw specialists this season. They remain unbeaten in nine games, but five of them have ended in draws.

Had they managed to turn a couple of them in to wins, they would be sitting pretty at the top of the A-League ladder.

Victory have the hottest striker in the A-League in the form of Bruno Fornaroli, who has 12 for the campaign. He is priced at 4.75 to score the first goal of the game.

Adelaide are the leading goalscorers in the A-League with 20, but tend to share them around. Zach Clough is top scorer with five and is priced at 4.00 to score at anytime.
