Big Bash: Adelaide Strikers profile

Adelaide Strikers will have high hopes heading into the new Big Bash League campaign as they look to add to the solitary title they won in 2017/18.

The 2022/23 campaign was a disappointing one as they missed out on finals, but the Striker could be back with a bang in the season ahead.

Adelaide’s roster is looking strong and they can be backed at 7.50 to go on and win the Big Bash this season.

Only the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers are a shorter price.

Let’s take a look at the Strikers with the new BBL season fast approaching.

Big Bash League history

The Strikers have won the BBL title just the once back in 2017/2018, beating Hobart Hurricanes by 25 runs in the final.

After failing to make finals the season after, they did go on a solid run of making the end-of-season shoot-out.

However they failed to progress, finding Sydney Thunder, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers too good.

The Strikers finished seventh on the ladder last season, missing out on finals, and will be determined to bounce back this year.

New signings

The Strikers have strengthened their ranks during the off-season and one of the big captures sees batting all-rounder Darcy Short arrive.

Short had been with the Hobart Hurricanes since 2016/17 and has impressed with the bat when scoring 2706 BBL runs.

He also bowls dangerous wrist spin and will be a key player for the Strikers in BBL 13.

Short has also represented Australia in T20 internationals and the Strikers will have him on board for the next two seasons.

The Strikers also pulled off a massive coup when luring Jamie Overton in the draft.

The Englishman was the player of the tournament during the Hundred and will now make his BBL debut after the Strikers snapped him up.

Overton is a bowling all-rounder and is sure to be a big hit in the BBL this season.

Adelaide also did well to retain the services of Rashid Khan, despite the best efforts of the Melbourne Stars to try and poach him.

The Strikers activated their retention to keep hold of the talented legspinner after the Stars selected him with their first pick.

Other key players

The Strikers have a talented roster and it is no surprise they are tipped to do well this season.

Travis Head, Chris Lynn and Matt Short will be among the batting line-up, while Australian star Alex Carey will keep wicket.

Cameron Boyce and Wes Agar will also be in the bowling attack and the Strikers will be a big threat all season.

Strikers' opening fixtures

The Strikers will begin their BBL 13 campaign with a home game against Brisbane Heat on 9th December, which will be followed by another home clash against Sydney Thunder on 19th December.

Trips to take on the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades then follow over the Christmas period.

On New Year’s Eve the Strikers will entertain Melbourne Stars, before they head to the west to takes on Perth Scorchers on 3rd January.
