A-League: Adelaide United Focus

Adelaide United had a disappointing 2023/24 A-League season as they missed out on finals and they will be desperate to bounce back in the new campaign.

The Reds have been battling it out at the top of the ladder in recent years, but last season they fell well below the standards they had previously set.

2024/25 will be all about bouncing back and they are priced at 15.00 to go all the way and win the grand final.

However, a return to finals will be the first job and it is important they get the season off to a strong start.

Let’s take a look at how Adelaide United are shaping up ahead of the new season.

. What: 2024/25 A-League season
. Where: Venues across Australia and New Zealand
. When: October 2024-May 2025
. How to watch: Paramount+, Channel 10
. Odds (Grand Final): Central Coast Mariners 5.00, Melbourne Victory 5.50, Melbourne City 6.00, Adelaide United 15.00

Reds looking to bounce back

Adelaide United have won the grand final once, back in 2016 and in recent seasons have been pushing hard towards the top of the ladder.

Following a couple of near misses in finals, they were expected to challenge for honours once again last season.

However, following a hugely disappointing and inconsistent campaign, they finished eighth on the ladder and seven points adrift of a spot in finals.

Now the Reds faithful will be hoping for a response from their team and a return to finals is a must for them.

The Reds can be backed at 2.25 to make the top six and play finals, but it will be far from easy in a hugely competitive A-League.

Irankunda moves on to German giants

It has been another busy off-season at Adelaide United as they prepare for the new season.

The big departure saw starlet Nestory Irankunda complete his dream move to Bayern Munich, but the Reds have also been busy strengthening their squad.

One of the big coups of the off-season has seen the Reds snap up the experienced Dutch defender Bart Vriends on a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old central defender made almost 200 appearances for Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie and will add experience and quality to the backline.

Winger Dylan Pierias also arrives on a three-year deal from Western Sydney Wanderers and is another player who should improve the team.

The Reds are certainly doing all they can to build a squad capable of challenging at the top again.

Ben Folami is another excellent signing, with the 25-year-old forward penning a four-year deal after being lured away from Melbourne Victory.

Jordan Elsey is also back with the club for a second spell and his leadership qualities will be a big plus for the Reds.

Opening fixtures

Adelaide United have a tough start to the 2024/25 A-League season when they take on the reigning premiers Central Coast Mariners.

The Mariners are the 5.00 hot fancies to win the grand final once again and will be looking to get off to a winning start at Coopers Stadium.

Adelaide will then face another tough test when they travel to Western Sydney Wanderers in their second game.

The Wanderers could have Juan Mata in their side and will be looking to make finals this season.

United then have a decent run of fixtures which present an opportunity to rack up some points.

Western United and Perth Glory must come to Adelaide, while the Reds also travel to take on Brisbane Roar and Newcastle Jets.
