Adelaide United v Macarthur FC preview: Hosts need to rediscover winning ways

The Coopers Stadium clash of Adelaide United and Macarthur FC brings together two sides split by a single point in the A-League standings, with the visitors moving above their hosts in recent weeks.

Macarthur have notched three wins in their last five, while the hosts Adelaide have managed just one three-point return in their last five games.

Wins have dried up for Adelaide, but the visiting side did have their momentum checked with a last-time-out loss.

Adelaide lose their way

Four wins in their first seven games had Adelaide dreaming of A-League glory, but they've only added one in five since and are now 14/1 to win the Grand Final and 4/5 to Finish in Top 6.

They currently occupy that sixth spot, but a home win in the first fixture of the A-League's matchday 13 could take them as high as third, though they'd have to find the net plenty.

A stalemate against bottom of the ladder Melbourne Victory last time wasn't what Adelaide wanted and boss Carl Veart will be keen to see a response now.

Craig Goodwin had given his team the lead in the seventh minute, but Melbourne Victory were able to claw themselves back into the game with a goal early on in the second half and, with no further scoring, it meant just one point from six for Adelaide after a 4-0 defeat against Central Coast.

Defeat here would likely see his side dropping into the bottom half before the weekend is done and Veart will want his 19/20 outfit to oblige in the Full Time Result market.

Yorke's side also chasing a rebound

Dwight Yorke saw his Macarthur side turned over 2-1 by Central Coast last weekend, their fifth defeat this season in a dozen games.

It's been an all-or-nothing sort of journey to this point, with five wins and five losses in those 12 games. Macarthur need to become harder to beat, with the draw Full Time Result priced at 3/1 here.

The former Manchester United striker will take heart however that his Bulls side head into Friday's fixture sitting a point ahead of their opponents in the league table, and with the chance the create a gap between them.

Bachana Arabuli is expected to lead the line as a lone striker for the visitors as he aims to fire the team back to winning ways here and he is priced at 7/1 in the First Goalscorer market.

Macarthur may complete a double

These sides last met on 16th October and it was Macarthur that ran out 2-0 winners – a repeat scoreline this time is trading at 20/1 – with goals from Daniel Arzani and Lachlan Rose in either half.

Both squads look to be at full strength heading into this rematch. There's little to pick between these teams but Adelaide's problem this season has been consistency, with a symmetrical look to their form after four wins, four draws and four losses so far.

As noted, the visitors tend to be a more boom or bust sort of side. Having fallen two goals down against Central Coast inside half an hour, a heavy defeat might have been forecast – Adelaide were turned over 4-0 by the same opponents two starts ago – but Macarthur showed some backbone and were unfortunate not to collect something late on.

It's 4/7 Both Teams To Score in this one, and that looks a likely outcome. Macarthur could be good enough to complete a double over their hosts here, though it won't be straightforward. The away side to win and both teams to score at 5/1 could be a rewarding outcome in this opening A-League tussle of the weekend.
