The 2025 AFL season is drawing ever closer and, if 2024 is anything to go by, we are set for an exciting, unpredictable seven months of action.
Brisbane Lions snapped their premiership drought to win the 2024 grand final, but they had plenty of ups and downs along the way.
The Lions will be in the mix again, while plenty of eyes will be on Sydney Swans to see if they can bounce back from more grand final heartache.
There are sure to be one or two teams who will come from nowhere to challenge, and Fremantle might be one of them.
Let's take a look at the very latest outright odds market.
Brisbane - 7.00
Hawthorn - 8.00
Greater Western Sydney - 9.00
Sydney - 10.00
Geelong - 10.00
Carlton - 10.00
Collingwood - 11.00
Western Bulldogs - 12.00
Fremantle - 12.00
Brisbane - 7.00
Brisbane were the hot fancies to win the 2024 grand final and, after a rollercoaster season, they got there in the end.
They head into 2025 in the same position and look sure to be in the mix once again, with a strong roster of players.
There will be without the retired Joe Daniher this season, but there is some good young, up and coming talent at the club, while they have also recruited well.
A team has not gone back-to-back since Richmond Tigers in 2020 and the Lions will be out to change that.
Hawthorn - 8.00
Hawthorn were the surprise package of 2024, recovering from a horror start to force their way into finals.
Winning 14 of their last 18 games, they looked on course to go all the way before coming unstuck against Port Adelaide in finals.
The Hawks have made some strong additions during the off-season and are many peoples hot fancies to go all the way in 2025.
Greater Western Sydney - 9.00
The Giants will once again begin the campaign looking to win their first premiership and they should be in the mix once again.
GWS finished in fourth spot on the ladder in 2024, but after going out of finals in straight sets, they will be desperate to bounce back.
Greater Western Sydney are 9.00 to win the grand final and, with the likes of Toby Greene in the ranks, they have the roster to do it.
Sydney - 10.00
Sydney were the best side throughout the 2024 regular season when winning the minor premiership.
However, they failed to show up on the biggest stage yet again, losing another grand final, this time against Brisbane.
Much will depend on how the club can react to that setback, but if they can use it to spur them on in 2025, they can be backed at 10.00 to make amends.
Geelong - 10.00
Geelong finished third on the ladder in 2024 and were in the mix to add another premiership to the trophy cabinet.
They ended up losing the Preliminary Final against Brisbane by 10 points, but should come back strong again in 2025.
Winners of the 2022 flag, Geelong can be backed at 10.00 to win it again.
Carlton - 10.00
Carlton were strong for much of 2024, but faded badly towards the end and only scraped into finals on the very last day of the regular campaign.
They will be hoping this will finally be there year and, with players like Charlie Curnow and Patrick Cripps, they have the roster to impress.
But it takes more than that to win a premiership and Carlton are currently priced at 10.00 to go all the way.
Fremantle - 12.00
Fremantle were in with a shout of making the top four in 2024 before a horror run of form late on saw them drop out of the eight altogether.
The loss of Josh Treacy and Alex Pearce to injury at the end of the season hit them hard and keeping both players on the park will be key in 2025.
The Dockers are sure to have learnt the lessons from that collapse and have strengthened well during the off-season, with Shai Bolton arriving in the west.
They have what it takes to push for the top four once again and, if the stars align, could turn out to be flag contenders.
Western Bulldogs - 12.00
Like Fremantle, Western Bulldogs have what it takes to push for the top four and could also be dark horses for the premiership.
Luke Beveridge’s side came with a strong finish, winning eight of the last 10 games, to make finals before running into a red-hot Hawthorn side.
Despite the Elimination Final loss, the Bulldogs had one of the strongest defences in the AFL and also one of the most feared attacks.
With skipper Marcus Bontempelli once again leading a strong group of players, it could be another big year for the Bulldogs.
