Brisbane v Greater Western Sydney: AFL Saturday preview

Brisbane will be out to bounce back from their third defeat of the season when they entertain Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

The Lions may be in second spot on the ladder, but they are having something of a mid-season slump, having won just two out of the last five games.

That is not good enough for the reigning premiers and they will be keen to get on a run and prove the doubters wrong.

Greater Western Sydney are still searching for the consistency that can help them cement their place in the top-eight.

A 7-6 record for the season so far say it all, and they need to cut out the defeats between now and the end of the campaign.

The Giants also head into the game on the back of a defeat, and like the Lions, will be desperate to bounce back.

Lions look to bounce back

Brisbane need a response after slipping to a five-point defeat against Adelaide last week, and will be delighted to be back on home soil.

It was only their third defeat of the season, but their second in the last four games, and they can ill-afford any more if they are to keep the heat on Collingwood.

They do not have the greatest recent record against the Giants when losing two of the last three.

But they did win the semi-final by five points in 2024 before going on to win the grand final.

Brisbane will be hoping for a more convincing win this time, and can be backed at 5.50 to win by 13-24 points.

Will Ashcroft was back to his best in the defeat to Adelaide, collecting 31 disposals.

The Norm Smith Medal winner in last year’s grand final can be backed at 2.50 to collect 30+ disposals against GWS.

Giants eye upset

Greater Western Sydney will be out to cause an upset, and can take heart from their most recent trip to the Gabba.

They won by 18 points in Round 22 last year and are capable of something similar if they take their A-game to Brisbane.

The Giants can be backed at 7.00 to win by 1-12 points.

Lachie Ash is at the top of his game and is producing some career-best form.

He is averaging just under 29 disposals a game and can be backed at 1.87 to collect 30+ disposals at the Gabba.
