AFL: Cats out to continue strong start

Geelong will look to continue their winning start to the season when they take on a Hawthorn side that are yet to taste victory in 2024.

It is very early days in the 2024 AFL season, but Geelong have started well when beating fellow top-eight hopefuls Adelaide and St Kilda.

The Cats can be backed at 1.72 to make finals, but the way they are going they could put themselves in the mix for the premiership.

Chris Scott’s side are priced at 15.00 to repeat their 2022 achievement and go on and win the grand final.

Hawthorn on the other hand have had a tough start, with back-to-back losses, and really need a win to kick-start their campaign.

Hawks in need of a boost

Hawthorn have started the season badly with two defeats on the spin against Essendon and Melbourne.

A 55-point home defeat against Melbourne would have been a big disappointment for them, and it has been suggested they approached that encounter with too much caution.

It will be interesting to see if their approach changes for the clash with the Cats.

One bright light for the Hawks has been the performances of James Worpel, who is averaging 27.5 disposals a game.

The midfielder can be backed at 3.00 to raise his game a touch further by producing 30+ on Monday.

The last time the two sides met at the MCG was in 2022 and the Hawks managed to win by 12 points.

What they would give for the same outcome here, and they can be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points once again.

Geelong looking strong

The Cats had a nightmare start to 2023, just months after winning the premiership, but the same cannot be said this season.

They have beaten Adelaide and St Kilda to get off to the perfect start, and will be targeting another win over the Hawks.

Geelong have picked up those two wins despite missing key players through injury, and they have lost another in the form of Patrick Dangerfield, who will sit out.

Even so, the Cats have shown they have the list to cope and will be confident of getting the result at the MCG.

Tom Hawkins may be approaching 35, but he is still kicking goals, and helped himself to four in the win over Adelaide.

The forward can be backed at 8.00 to boot the first or 1.05 to score at anytime.

Geelong will be out to record a convincing win and are priced at 7.00 to win by 37-48 points.
