AFL: Collingwood out to stop the rot

Collingwood have started the 2024 AFL campaign with two defeats on the bounce and must avoid a third against St Kilda on Thursday night.

The Pies cannot afford to lose the opening three games of the season if they are to go on and defend the premiership they won last season.

They have already drifted to 8.00 in the grand final winner market, and they need a response against the Saints.

St Kilda will also be looking to bounce back after suffering a narrow defeat against Geelong in their opening game of the season last weekend.

St Kilda are 2.50 to make the top eight, and a win over the Pies would give them a big lift at this early stage of the season.

. When: 18:30 (AEST), Thursday 21st March 2024

Saints out to upset Pies

St Kilda began the season with an eight-point defeat against Geelong, but will take plenty of heart from the performance.

Tim Membrey impressed when booting three goals during the loss and can be backed at 13.00 to score the first of the game.

Max King also chipped in with a couple of goals against the Cats and is 9.00 to boot the first against the Pies.

St Kilda have lost the last two games against Collingwood, but last season’s encounter was close and they gave the Pies a run for their money.

Collingwood edged it by six points, and we could be in for another tight game in the latest showdown.

St Kilda to win by 1-12 points can be backed at 5.50.

Riley Bonner will be another player to watch for St Kilda after he managed 28 disposals against Geelong.

Back on home soil, he can be backed at 4.50 to produce 30+.

Pies need to bounce back

The alarm bells will be sounding among the Collingwood faithful after their premiership defence began with two defeats on the bounce.

Following an opening round defeat against Greater Western Sydney, it was backed up with a 33-point home defeat against Sydney Swans.

Two heavy defeats have raised questions about their credentials to go back-to-back, and Collingwood will be keen to answer the critics.

It is not all doom and gloom, Nick Daicos is averaging 35.5 disposals a game and is priced at 2.12 to produce 35+ against St Kilda.

New boy Lachie Schultz is also catching the eye since arriving from Fremantle and booted a couple of goals against the Swans.

He can be backed at 1.27 to score at anytime against St Kilda or 13.00 to get the first of the game.
