AFL: Dockers out to back-up Swans win

Fremantle made a huge statement when beating Sydney last week and now need to back it up against Richmond on Saturday night.

The Dockers have blown hot and cold this season, but the shock one-point win over the ladder-leaders at the SCG moved them to second place on the ladder.

They can be backed at 2.50 to make the top four but need to keep their foot on the gas, and a win over the struggling Tigers is a must.

Meanwhile fifth-placed Geelong need to build on the win against Essendon, but face a Hawthorn side that have won the last five games on the spin.

To wrap up the action on Saturday, Port Adelaide entertain Western Bulldogs, while North Melbourne face Gold Coast Suns at Marvel Stadium.

. Odds: Fremantle 1.07, Richmond 8.50

Fremantle proved their top-four credentials with a brave and impressive win over Sydney last weekend.

Even without star defender Alex Pearce, the Dockers managed to get the job done against the Swans, and the future looks bright.

Jye Amiss also rediscovered his form in front of goals with three goals at the SCG, and can be backed at 9.50 to kick the first of the game.

Richmond have won just two games all season, but one of them did come in Adelaide in round 13 when they beat the Crows by seven points.

Even so, Fremantle can be backed at 4.75 to pile on the points and win by 73+.

Suns target first win on the road

. Where: Marvel Stadium, Melbourne
. When: 13:45 (AEST), Saturday 6th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: North Melbourne 3.20, Gold Coast 1.36

Gold Coast have won all eight games at home this season, but have suffered seven defeats from seven on the road.

After beating Collingwood by 11 points last week they will be on a high, and may not get a better chance to cure their travel sickness.

They can be backed at 5.50 to win by 13-24 points, but it will not be easy against a Kangaroos side that has made big improvements in recent weeks.

Ben King booted four goals against the Pies and is 7.50 to get the first against the Kangas.

Power back on track

. What: Port Adelaide v Western Bulldogs
. Where: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
. When: 13:45 (AEST), Saturday 6th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Port Adelaide 2.02, Western Bulldogs 1.80

Port Adelaide picked up a massive morale-boosting two-point win against St Kilda last week and need to back it up against the Bulldogs.

However the Bulldogs will be feeling good about themselves after winning the last two games and a close one looks to be on the cards.

Port have won the last three meetings, but the biggest winning margin was 22 points in round 13 last season.

They can be backed at 6.50 to win by 13-24 points on this occasion, while the Bulldogs are 6.00 to win by the same.

Geelong back to winning ways

. What: Geelong v Hawthorn
. Where: GMHBA Stadium, Geelong
. When: 16:35 (AEST), Saturday 6th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Geelong 1.54, Hawthorn 2.50

After losing two on the bounce, Geelong returned to winning ways with a big 45-point win over fellow top-four hopefuls Essendon.

Chris Scott’s side now need to keep the good times rolling against one of the form teams in the AFL, Hawthorn.

The Hawks have won the last five games, but a trip to GMHBA Stadium to take on the Cats will be their biggest test yet.

If Hawthorn are to win, it will be tight, and they can be backed at 5.50 to win by 1-12 points.
