Geelong v Melbourne: AFL Friday Preview

Geelong will have a great chance to snap a two-game losing streak on Friday night when they take on struggling Melbourne.

The Cats started with a bang as they thrashed Fremantle in Round 1, but have since slipped to defeats against St Kilda and Brisbane.

They now need to bounce back and will not get a better chance when they return to GMHBA Stadium to take on the Demons.

Melbourne have got the campaign off to a horror 0-3 start and are in desperate need of a positive result.

But following heavy defeats in their last two games, it will need some turnaround to get the job done against the Cats.

Home comforts for Cats

After back-to-back defeats on the road at Brisbane and St Kilda, Geelong will be delighted to be back at GMHBA Stadium.

It was the scene of their opening day win when they thrashed Fremantle 147-69, and they will be hoping for the same against Melbourne.

They have won the last two meetings against Melbourne on home soil, by 15 and 28 points respectively.

Chris Scott’s men can be backed at 5.50 to win by 13-24 points in the latest battle.

Patrick Dangerfield has caught the eye in recent games, booting four goals in the opening three matches.

The 34-year-old is now venturing more into the attacking half and can be backed at 13.00 to kick the first goal of the game, or 1.22 to score at anytime.

Demons on the slide

Melbourne have slipped to heavy defeats against sides that finished in the bottom six last season, to set alarm bells ringing among the members.

They suffered a 125-66 loss against North Melbourne in the derby, and then 120-62 loss against the Gold Coast Suns last weekend.

It would take some effort to beat the Cats on their own patch, and they are priced at 8.50 to win by 1-12 points.

One bright spark for the Demons has been the performances of 19-year-old midfielder Harvey Langford.

26 disposals against the Suns earned him a Rising Star nomination, and he will look to take that form into Friday night.

Langford can be backed at 1.87 to collect 25+ disposals once again.
