AFL: GWS out to cause derby upset

Sydney will look to silence the noisy neighbours and consolidate top spot on the AFL ladder when they face Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

It is one of two derbies to be played on Saturday with Melbourne and North Melbourne also going head-to-head at the MCG.

Sydney are 12 points clear at the top of the ladder after losing just one game this season, and can be backed at 3.50 to win the grand final.

GWS have slipped to fifth on the ladder after losing three of the last five games, but the form book has a tendency to fly out of the window when it comes to a derby game.

Melbourne will also have to be on their guard against a Kangaroos side that came close to toppling Collingwood last week, and appears to have hit some form.

Saturday’s other clash sees Port Adelaide, who sit seventh on the ladder, entertain a Brisbane side that has work to do to make the top eight.

Port Adelaide will look to get their top four hopes back on track when they face Brisbane in the opening game of the day.

The Power have lost the last two games against GWS and Carlton, and four points against the Lions is a must.

Mitch Georgiades will be key to their chances after booting 19 goals in 10 matches this season, and is priced at 12.00 to kick the first goal of the game.

Brisbane are showing signs of improvement after winning three out of the last four games, to push them closer to the eight.

The Lions can be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points and make it three wins on the bounce.

Giants out to cause upset

. Where: ENGIE Stadium, Sydney
. When: 16:35 (AEST), Saturday 22nd June 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Greater Western Sydney 3.00, Sydney 1.40

Greater Western Sydney were impressive when beating Port Adelaide by 22 points last week and need to take that form into the derby.

They have lost the last two meetings with the Swans and will be out for revenge on their home deck of ENGIE Stadium.

The return of Josh Kelly made a huge difference against Port as he gathered 27 disposals in the win.

GWS will need him again and the midfielder is 1.87 to produce 25+ disposals against the Swans.

Sydney are looking unstoppable and can be backed at 6.00 to win by 1-12 points.

Joel Amartey, who booted nine goals against Adelaide last week, is 9.00 to carry on where he left off, and boot the first against GWS.

Demons out of the eight

. What: Melbourne v North Melbourne
. Where: MCG, Melbourne
. When: 19:30 (AEST), Saturday 22nd June 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Melbourne 1.17, North Melbourne 5.25

Melbourne have slipped out of the top eight after losing four of its last five matches and they need to bounce back.

They will not get a better chance as they have been beaten North Melbourne in each of the last five meetings.

The Demons have been rocked by injuries to key players, including Christian Petracca, who is out for the season, but they are still 5.50 to win by 37-48 points.

After beating West Coast and losing narrowly to Collingwood, the Kangaroos could be in with a shout against the Demons.

Nick Larkey will need his shooting boots once again and is 9.50 to kick the first of the game.
