Melbourne v Collingwood: AFL Monday preview

Collingwood will be out to cement their place at the top of the AFL ladder when they take on Melbourne at the MCG on Monday afternoon.

The Pies appear to be the team to beat this season as they continue to brush aside every opponent put before them.

Collingwood have won the last four games and, with the next four against sides outside of the top eight, they have a real opportunity to kick on.

Next up is the King's Birthday clash against Melbourne on Monday and another four points is the order of the day.

The Demons had been going well with three wins from four before they slipped up against St Kilda last week and now need to bounce back.

Being a public holiday in Melbourne, the MCG will be packed to the rafters, and most will be expecting a Collingwood win.

Demons eyeing an upset

Melbourne were on a roll after knocking over Sydney and Brisbane Lions, but were stopped in their tracks against St Kilda.

The 28-point defeat against the Saints in Alice Springs would have been a tough pill to swallow and they will be out to make amends.

It will be easier said than done against Collingwood side that they have failed to beat in the last three attempts.

Indeed, they have only won two of the last 12 meeting between the two sides.

Starting the game well will be crucial to their chances and they can be backed at 3.10 to win the first quarter by 1-18 points.

Melbourne are priced at 7.00 to kick on from there and win a tight game by 1-12 points.

Pies continue to fly high

Collingwood will take some stopping this season after winning 10 and losing just two of their opening 12 games.

They were impressive as they smashed Hawthorn by 51 points last week, with Jamie Elliott booting another five goals in the game.

Elliott is at the peak of his powers right now, averaging just under three goals a game, and can be backed at 7.00 to kick the first goal of the game.

Meanwhile, Bobby Hill is also in the form of his life with 16 goals in the last 10 games and is 1.13 to grab another goal at anytime.

Collingwood have won the last two meetings between these two teams by 46 and 38 points respectively and are priced at 5.00 to win this game by 25-36 points.
