Melbourne v Hawthorn: AFL Saturday preview

Melbourne have hit some form in the AFL but face their toughest test yet when they take on high-flying Hawthorn.

The Demons got their season off to a shocking start, losing five on the bounce, but have since responded with three straight victories.

A fourth against the Hawks would get them believing the top eight is still a possibility.

However, that will be easier said than done as Hawthorn have won six from eight to sit in third place on the ladder.

The Hawks looked to have hit a stumbling block with two successive defeats, but are now back on an even keel after winning their last two.

They have lost their last three games against Melbourne, but will fancy their chances of snapping that streak at the MCG.

Demons are back on track

Melbourne sparked into life with a win over Fremantle, before kicking on with successes against Richmond and West Coast.

A clash with Hawthorn will be another level, but confidence should be high in the camp and they will fancy their chances.

The last time they lost to Hawthorn was way back in 2018, so they do seem to have the sign over them at the moment.

If Melbourne are to keep the streak going it is likely to be tight and they can be backed at 7.50 to win by 1-12 points.

Melbourne got the job done in Perth, scoring 108 points against West Coast Eagles.

Daniel Turner booted three goals in that game and can be backed at 1.62 to kick another at anytime against the Hawks.

Hawks recover from back-to-back losses

After losing to Geelong and Port Adelaide, Hawthorn could not have asked for a better run of fixtures to get themselves back to winning ways.

They got the job done against Richmond and West Coast and now get the chance to make it three victories in a row.

Hawthorn may have a poor record against Melbourne, but they love the MCG, winning nine out of the last 10 visits.

Sam Mitchell’s side are priced at 5.50 to win the game by either 13-24 or 25-36 points.

Jack Gunston is in fine form, with his three goals against Richmond taking his tally for the season to 20.

Gunston is 10.00 to kick the first or last goal of the game, or 1.08 to score at anytime.

Josh Battle collected 33 disposals against the Tigers and is 4.50 to do the same and collect 30+ again this weekend.
