AFL: Norm Smith Medal contenders

The Norm Smith Medal is awarded to the player adjudged to have been best on ground during the AFL grand final.

It is getting closer to that time again with the AFL grand final series set to begin on Thursday 5th September.

Eight teams will battle it out to make it to the grand final and it looks set to be one of the most closely-fought finals series in recent times.

Sydney are 3.75 to go on and win the grand final, with Greater Western Sydney 5.50 and Port Adelaide 6.00.

It is tough to predict the Norm Smith Medalist while the make up of the grand final is not yet known, but there are still some leading candidates.

Swans trio in the mix

Sydney can be backed at 2.00 to reach the 2024 grand final, and if they do, they have a host of players that can go on to win the Norm Smith Medal.

Isaac Heeney has been a revelation for the Swans this season and can be backed at 15.00 to win the Norm Smith Medal.

The 28-year-old has played in 21 games this season and had it not been for a suspension, would have been in the hunt to win the Brownlow Medal.

He has been averaging above 25 disposals a game and is made for the big stage should he play in the grand final.

It is no surprise to see a couple more Sydney players in the betting.

Chad Warner and Errol Gulden have also impressed for the Swans this season and are both 16.00 to win the Norm Smith Medal.

Port duo shine

Port Adelaide have had a tremendous end to the season, finishing second on the ladder, and are 2.10 to make the grand final.

Two players that have been key for them are Zak Butters and Jason Horne-Francis, who are priced at 19.00 and 21.00 respectively.

Connor Rozee is another player who could be in the hunt, and is available at 23.00.

Brisbane face battle to make grand final

Brisbane have work to do to make the grand final after finishing outside of the top four, and are 4.25 to make it.

Even so, gun midfielder Lachie Neale can be backed at 15.00 to win the Norm Smith Medal.

He was left heartbroken in 2023 as Collingwood beat the Lions in the grand final, which resulted in Pies star Bobby Hill winning the Norm Smith Medal.

Neale, who has two Brownlow Medals to his name, would love nothing more than to add the Norm Smith to the collection.
