The 2024 Brownlow Medal is turning out to be one of the most anticipated vote counts in recent years.
The Brownlow Medal is the highest individual honour an AFL player can receive, and on 23rd September the 2024 winner will be unveiled.
A handful of players have been in the mix throughout the season, but it now appears to be a two-horse race.
Let’s take a look at the top two contenders, and one or two who could spring a surprise.
The Carlton midfielder is priced at 2.50 to win the Brownlow Medal after another stellar campaign.
Many predictors have Cripps polling the most votes and he looks on course to win another Brownlow, to add to the one he won in 2022.
Carlton have had to battle this season and only made it into the top eight on the final day of the regular season.
But Cripps has been as consistent as ever and put in another solid display in the defeat to St Kilda.
He had 30 touches and eight clearances in that game and is likely to have picked up more points which could have sealed the Brownlow Medal.
Daicos came very close to winning the Brownlow Medal last year, only to be pipped by Brisbane’s Lachie Neale.
The Collingwood midfielder is in the mix again, and if anyone is to stop Cripps, it is Daicos.
He can be backed at 2.60 to win the Brownlow Medal and did his chances the world of good in Round 24.
Daicos booted two goals and collected 40 disposals and there is a chance would have collected all three votes with such a performance.
However it has been suggested that Cripps could have had the Brownlow in the bag before the final round of matches.
If there is to be a shock winner of the Brownlow Medal, then Lachie Neale is the one most likely to pip Cripps and Daicos.
Neale has won the Brownlow in both 2023 and 2020, and has had another fine season with the Lions.
He is likely to come up just short in 2024, but can still be backed at 7.00 to win the Brownlow Medal.
Western Bulldogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli is another outsider and is priced at 16.00.
