Port Adelaide v Carlton: AFL Thursday preview

Carlton are in need of a major response after suffering an embarrassing defeat against North Melbourne in Round 15 of the AFL season.

Blues coach Michael Voss is really starting to feel the heat as his side once again struggle to mount an AFL premiership push.

Carlton sit outside the eight, having won just six games all season, and unless there is a big turnaround could miss out on finals altogether.

Like Carlton, Port have won just two games out of the last five and also head into the game on the back of a defeat.

A home loss against Sydney left them in 12th spot on the ladder with a 6-8 record for the season.

The Power also need a win to keep alive their hopes of playing finals in Ken Hinkley’s last season as their head coach.

Port waiting on Wines

Port are waiting on the fitness of Ollie Wines ahead of the must-win clash against the Blues.

The Brownlow Medallist is rated at '50-50' to make the clash, but Port are unlikely to take a risk on such an influential player, even if finals are on the line.

There is more encouraging news regards Aliir Aliir, with the key defender having a 'good chance' of playing against Carlton.

Port won the last encounter between the two sides, leaving Melbourne with a 14-point win in Round 20 last year.

On home turf at Adelaide Oval they should have an even better chance and can be backed at 5.50 to win by 13-24 points.

Despite a disappointing 19-point loss at home to Sydney, Zak Butters once again put in a solid display with 28 disposals.

Butters can be backed at 1.28 to collect 25+ disposals in the clash with the Blues.

Blues hit a new low

Carlton's season took another plunge at the weekend when they suffered an 11-point home loss against struggling North Melbourne.

The knives are out for coach Michael Voss and both he and his team are in desperate need of a win at the Adelaide Oval.

They did win there by 36 points in Round 12 last year, but would take any kind of victory in 2025.

If Carlton are to leave with the points, it is likely to be tight, and they can be backed at 5.50 to win by 1-12 points.

Mitch McGovern booted four goals against the Kangaroos, but it was not enough to prevent the shock defeat.

Even so, he can be backed at 15.00 to keep his good form going by kicking the first goal of the game, or 1.30 to score at anytime.
