St Kilda v Brisbane: AFL Saturday preview

Brisbane will be desperate to bounce back from their first defeat of the AFL season when they travel to Melbourne to take on St Kilda.

The Lions made the perfect start to their premiership defence with five wins on the bounce before they came unstuck against Collingwood last week.

The heavy defeat may have provided the wake-up call they need and Chris Fagan's side are sure to come out firing at Marvel Stadium.

Saints also need to respond after suffering back-to-back defeats against side also hoping to be in the top eight.

They have slipped to 12th place on the ladder, but a surprise win over the Lions would definitely get them back on track.

Brisbane do have the edge over St Kilda, however, winning their last three meetings.

Saints in need of a boost

St Kilda looked to be on the up after winning three games on the spin, only to then lose against Greater Western Sydney and Western Bulldogs.

The 28-point defeat against the Giants was on home soil, before they were smashed by 71 points by the Bulldogs.

That second defeat will have been hard to take and Ross Lyon will be hoping to see some kind of response from his players.

Saints can take heart from the fact they have won eight out of the last nine matches at Marvel Stadium and they can be backed at 6.50 to snatch a win by 1-12 points.

While St Kilda have been hit and miss this season, the same cannot be said of Jack Higgins, who has booted 17 goals already.

The forward can be backed at 12.00 to kick the first or last goal, or 1.11 to score at anytime.

Lions look to get back on track

Brisbane will be hoping to bounce back from their first defeat of the season and could not ask for a better opportunity.

The Lions have a great record against St Kilda, winning the last six on the bounce, while Marvel Stadium is a happy hunting ground.

They have won 12 of the past 14 meetings at the venue, including an 85-point win over Saints in Round 21 last season.

It is likely to be a closer game in 2025, but Brisbane are 5.50 to win by 13-24 points.

Despite the disappointing loss to Collingwood, Lachie Neale still chipped in with 25 disposals.

The gun midfielder can be backed at 1.20 to collect 25+ against the Saints, while Josh Dunkley 1.87 to do the same.
