AFL Team Profile: Adelaide

Adelaide had a solid 2023 AFL campaign but just missed out on the top eight, and they will be gunning to make finals in the season ahead.

The Crows have a talented roster, full of rising stars, and they look to have a great chance of breaking into the eight in 2024.

There is the potential to go even higher if their star players can bring their A game to the table.

The Crows are priced at 1.90 to finish in the top eight and they are a team to look out for in the season ahead.

Crows fall just short in 2023

There was a lot to like about the Adelaide Crows in 2023, but the season ended in disappointment as they finished in 10th spot on the ladder.

They managed to pick up 11 wins and finished with a percentage of 116.8. However they were six points short of the top eight and will look to improve this season.

Adelaide lost the opening two games of the season, but then went on to win the next four, which included a 31-point win over Port Adelaide in the Showdown.

The Crows ran Collingwood very close on two occasions and also picked up impressive wins over Brisbane Lions, Carlton and St Kilda.

They went on to complete the double over arch rivals Port Adelaide, but consistency proved to be an issue in the end.

Defeats against Essendon, GWS, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney late in the season, cost them a spot in the top eight.

Some are tipping the Crows to make a push for the Top Four this season, and they can be backed at 5.00 to make it.

They are also a roughie to go all the way and win the grand final, priced at 15.00.

Key Players

Izak Rankine will be crucial for the Crows in 2024 and if the small forward is firing, Matthew Nicks’ side will be in for a good season.

Rankine made the switch to the Crows from the Gold Coast Suns ahead of the 2023 season, and went on to shine.

The pressure was on after arriving on a big contract, but the 23 year old averaged almost two goals a game over the 20 appearances he made.

Now he has settled into his new surroundings, big things are expecting of Rankine in 2024.

Josh Rachele will be another player to look out for in the season ahead.

The 20-year-old small forward will embark on his third season in the AFL, and could excite the Crows faithful this year.

Taylor Walker had an outstanding 2023 and the forward is sure to play a big role once again and will be in the mix for the Coleman Medal.

However the Crows also have a couple of rising key forwards in the form of Riley Thilthorpe and Darcy Fogarty, who can help take the pressure off ‘Tex’.

Crows begin on the Gold Coast

It is important the Crows get off to a good start and they begin the campaign with a trip to the Gold Coast to take on the Suns.

The game represents a chance for Rankine to shine against his former club, and the Crows are priced at 2.05 to win.

Gold Coast Suns can be backed at 2.05.
