Victorian teams make up the bulk of the AFL and if you cannot win the premiership, the next best thing is to hold the bragging rights in the state.
Before the AFL was formed, introducing teams from the other states in Australia, the VFL was the nation’s premier Aussie Rules competition.
Therefore it is no surprise that rivalries between the 10 Victorian sides currently playing in the AFL run very deep.
Victorian teams have dominated in recent seasons. Indeed since 2007 only Sydney, West Coast Eagles and Brisbane Lions have taken the premiership out of the state.
Brisbane are the reigning premiers, and are the hot fancies to go back-to-back in 2025, while Sydney and Greater Western Sydney are also in the mix.
However the Victorian teams are also looking strong so let’s take a look at the Top Victorian Club Outright Odds.
For a spell Hawthorn ruled the roost in Victoria as they dominated the AFL from 2013 to 2015, winning three grand finals on the bounce.
Following a spell lower down the ladder as the club went through a rebuild, the Hawks came roaring back in 2024.
No-one predicted such strong campaign as they finished in finals, before eventually losing the semi-final to Port Adelaide.
However they are expected to make further progress in 2025 and are a real contender to go all the way and win the flag.
If not, then at the very least, they are the hot fancy at 4.33 to finish as Victoria’s top club.
Carlton are one of the biggest, most traditional clubs in Victoria, yet you have to go way back to 1995 to find their last premiership success.
In recent seasons they have shown signs of improvement, but have often faltered at the business end of the campaign.
That was the case in 2024 when after a promising season they slid down the ladder and only just made finals in the final round.
The Blues will be hoping to stay the course in 2025 and are 4.50 to be the top Victorian club.
Geelong have tasted premiership success in recent times, winning the grand final in 2022.
Chris Scott’s side were the top Victorian club in 2024 when they finished the regular season in third spot on the ladder.
It ended in disappointment as Geelong lost a preliminary final to eventual winners Brisbane, but they will be there or thereabouts again in 2025.
Geelong can be backed at 5.00 to be top Victorian club.
Collingwood are another massive Victorian club and along with Carlton and Essendon, have won 16 premierships throughout their history.
The most recent success was in 2023, but unfortunately for the Pies the wheels came off in 2024 as they missed out on finals.
Collingwood are expected to bounce back in the season ahead, but it remains to be seen if they can finish above their Victorian rivals.
They are 7.00 to do so.
Western Bulldogs can also be backed at 7.00 to end the season as the top Victorian club.
The Bulldogs last won the premiership in 2016, but had a strong 2024 when finishing in sixth place on the ladder.
Geelong were the only Victorian club to finish higher, and they will be looking to go one better in the season ahead.
