West Coast v Fremantle: AFL Sunday preview

West Coast and Fremantle are both looking for their first win of the AFL season when they clash at Optus Stadium in the derby on Sunday.

The Eagles showed plenty of spirit as they slipped to defeat against Brisbane in Round 2 and will look to take the positives into the Freo clash.

Fremantle suffered a late, heartbreaking loss against Sydney at Optus Stadium and now need to bounce back to avoid a 0-3 start to the season.

Considering the Dockers were being billed as top-four hopefuls heading into the new season, such a start would be disastrous.

With so much pride at stake in the west, it is a tough one to call, and last season the Eagles and Dockers won one game each.

It could be a close battle once again and the atmosphere will be hot in Optus Stadium.

Ryan holds the key for Eagles

West Coast have lost the opening two games of the AFL season to sit at the foot of the ladder, but there were signs of hope against Brisbane.

They lost by just 19 points at the Gabba, which was a big improvement on the week before when Gold Coast beat them by 87 at Optus.

Liam Ryan made a big difference when he returned to the side against the Lions. He booted three goals and can be backed at 15.00 to kick the first on Sunday, or 1.33 to score at anytime.

West Coast did cause a big upset when winning this fixture by 37 points in Round 6 last season and would love to do the same again.

However, any kind of win will do, and they can be backed at 7.50 to win by 1-12 points.

Dockers under pressure to perform

After plenty of hype heading into the new season, Fremantle are under pressure to avoid a 0-3 start to the season.

They threw away a winning position against Sydney last week, losing by three points at the death, and were smashed at Geelong the week before.

However, they still have a side packed with quality players and if they click will fancy their chances of bouncing back.

Josh Treacy has kicked five goals so far this season and can be backed at 9.00 to kick the first of the game against the Eagles.

Jaeger O’Meara has also caught the eye in midfield when average 31.5 disposals so far. He can be backed at 4.50 to carry on that form and collect 30+ disposals against the Eagles.
