Australian Racing: Airlie Queen can claim Pinjarra crown

There’s four meetings set to take place with provincial fixtures at Pinjarra, Gosford and Mackay supplemented by a country meet at Sale.

Race 9 Pinjarra

Airlie Queen @ 3.60

Race 5 Sale

Dance Ready @ 3.60

Race 5 Gosford

Mischievous Molly @ 4.20

Queen to rule at Pinjarra

The finale at Pinjarra is an interesting 1200m Class 3 handicap with a soft 6 track expected for the 15 runner contest.

What A Prince has shown good form at this venue in the past including when runner-up over 1400m in a handicap at this level early this month.

That effort came on a good 4 track but it’s of note that the gelding did win on a soft 7 surface here back in April.

The gelding faded tamely when last of ten having raced close to the pace over 1400m at Belmont Park just over a week ago and he needs to put that effort behind him.

The drop in distance should prove no issue but barrier 14 is expected to prove more of an issue given the Michelle Hagley-trained geldings running style.

AIRLIE QUEEN is preferred on this occasion having shown a liking for a wet track when delivering a narrow victory in a 1200m Class 3 handicap at Belmont Park in May last year.

That triumph came on a surface raced a soft 6 and while she has failed to score in five subsequent starts she showed plenty of promise when a close second over 1300m in December.

Absent since that runner-up finish in a Class 5 at Pinjarra Scarpside she advertised her well-being with a win in a 950m barrier trial at Lark Hill earlier this month.

Trained by Grant & Alana Williams the mare has the services of William Pike here and looks capable of scoring with a good alley five off the rail.

Dance for Sale success

A wet track is expected at Sale for their nine race card with the going a heavy 9 currently.

The fifth race on the card is a competitive looking Benchmark 64 handicap over 1629m.

Dunalley is expected to prove popular following two solid efforts this time around.

Trained by David Brideoake & Matt Jenkins the filly has finished close-up on each occasion including when third over 1736m in a Benchmark 64 handicap here earlier this month.

That effort came on a soft 7 surface and the heavy 9 track here shouldn’t pose too many issues for Matthew Cartwright’s mount.

DANCE READY has finished in the top three in both starts on heavy going and while they came back in 2020 the gelding has shown good form on soft going since.

The Shawn Mathrick-trained six-year-old has been kept busy this spell winning twice since resuming over 1200m at Pakenham Synthetic back in September.

The most recent of those victories came when drawing three lengths clear of his rivals in a 1603m Restricted 58 handicap at Echuca last month.

The son of More Than Ready has placed third on both subsequent outings including over 1600m when racing in a Benchmark 64 handicap at Swan Hill earlier this month.

Usually ridden from off the pace the pick has a good alley six off the rail and is taken to deliver a victory here.

Molly for Gosford glory

In the fifth at Gosford MISCHIEVOUS MOLLY takes the eye in a 1600m Class 1 handicap contest.

The selection broke her maiden by just under one-and-a-half-lengths in a 1500m contest at Port Macquarie on her penultimate start.

The three-year-old proved that effort was no fluke when losing out narrowly when runner-up in a Class 2 handicap over the same track and trip just under two weeks later.

The soft 5 track here should prove no issue having shown good form on a wet track in the  past and dropping in grade she looks capable of doubling her career tally.
