McDonald to ride Amoreaux to victory

The penultimate race on the Randwick Kensington card is a Benchmark 72 handicap set to take place over 1100m on a good 4 track.

Angel Fund will jump from next to the rail and is expected to start as favourite, having demonstrated good form since failing to shine at Warwick Farm first up.

The four-year-old took a marked step forward when winning by a narrow margin in an 1100m Benchmark 72 handicap on a wet track at Canterbury subsequently.

The daughter of Capitalist heads here on the back of a second in a similar race to this over track and trip but, while she rates highly, AMOREAUX is the selection here.

Trained by Chris Waller, this filly registered a third-place finish over 1000m when contesting a maiden event at this venue in January.

While the 4.80 pick was beaten over three lengths that day, she registered a comfortable success when racing from the front at Canterbury subsequently.

That Canterbury victory came in an 1100m maiden event held on a good 4 track and she followed that up with a fifth in a 1200m Benchmark 62 handicap at the same venue.

James McDonald, on board for both of those Canterbury efforts, is again in the saddle and the pair are selected to record their first win together.

Epic ready for Heath triumph

They race on the Heath course at Caulfield for the first time, with the seventh race a 1000m Benchmark 78 handicap for horses aged three-year-old-and-up.

Ben Melham’s mount Flying On A Limb showed good form in his last prep, winning three consecutive starts including over 1000m at Sandown Hillside in May.

That effort was followed that up with a victory on the main track here, with both of those wins coming on soft 6 surfaces.

The four-year-old was freshened prior to a sixth over 1100m in a Benchmark 84 handicap in August and is expected to have his supporters returning from a spell.

However, top weight EPIC CENTRE is the pick to record a victory in this contest, with Jamie Mott set to ride the gelding who will jump from barrier two.

The four-year-old won three times in 2023, including over 1000m in a Benchmark 70 handicap at Sandown Hillside in July.

While the 6.00 selection failed to shine in his firsts two starts this prep, including down the straight at Flemington in January, he showed improvement last time.

The son of Starspangledbanner jumped at odds of $10 when contesting a Benchmark 70 handicap over 1000m at Moonee Valley at the start of this month.

The pick won by a narrow margin on that occasion and looks capable of completing a double stepping up in grade.

Simply to succeed at Belmont Park

The Grant & Alana Williams team send out SIMPLY, who takes the eye in the fifth race of the day at Belmont Park.

The three-year-old contests a 2200m event here, having recorded three good efforts in place company this prep.

The first two of those came from wide barriers, including when third of 16 over 1600m in a maiden held on a good 4 track at Ascot last month.

The 2.60 selection jumped from barrier 11 that day, but was drawn closer to the rail when winning over 2038m from barrier eight at Bunbruy when last in action on 28th February.

Having finished strongly at Bunbury with the fifth home placing in a metro maiden at Ascot subsequently, the pick has a good barrier in five here and is taken to complete a double.
