Ange Postecoglou’s stock is rising

Ange Postecoglou’s career in management to date has been about progressing up the football pyramid and developing his skills along the way.

From starting at South Melbourne back in 1996, Postecoglou has worked in the A-League, with the Australian national side and spent time in Japan before landing his current job with Celtic.

Making the Hoops the dominant force in Scottish football once again after Rangers’ brief spell at the top, now English Premier League clubs are keeping close tabs on the Aussie tactician and his situation in Glasgow.

Postecoglou on course for the treble

Celtic have been imperious this season in the Premiership and cruised their way to the Scottish title after taking advantage of Rangers’ stuttering start to the season.

The Light Blues did find form after the arrival of manager Michael Beale, but Postecoglou’s Hoops already had the momentum to land the title with four games to spare.

Beating Rangers in the League Cup final at Hampden and again in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at the national stadium were also sweet moments for Postecoglou and his players.

Celtic now have the treble in their sights, with Inverness CT the only team standing in the way between a 41st Scottish Cup success in the Bhoys’ history.

Postecoglou’s side are 1.12 to win, 10.00 to draw and 15.00 to lose against Caley Thistle on 3rd June at Hampden.

Success has not gone unnoticed south of the border

The rise of managers from the Scottish Premiership to then take on jobs in the English Premier League is a well-trodden path and one that Postecoglou could look to take in the near future.

Postecoglou has often played down his ambitions to manage in England but it would certainly be seen as the next step in a strong managerial career that has been all about progress.

The 57-year-old was linked with jobs in the Premier League this season, with clubs like Southampton, Leeds United and Everton being connected with Postecoglou as they battled at the bottom end of the table.

Being thrust into a relegation dogfight and potentially finding himself in the Championship was understandably not enough to lure Postecoglou away from Parkhead.

Jobs might potentially come up in the summer or in the early stages of the new Premier League season, and that could be the time Postecoglou makes the switch.

Postecoglou appears in no rush

Clearly a manager enjoying his time in Glasgow, Postecoglou has not seemed to be in any rush to leave Celtic, in a club he appears to have become very attached to.

After a stuttering start to his time at Parkhead, Postecoglou has become admired by the Celtic supporters, who will not want to lose his services to a club south of the border.

Eyes in Australia will be on where Postecoglou ends up next as he could potentially be set to pit his wits against the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp in the near future.
