Australian Racing: Apple Schnapps to show spirit

There are five meetings set to take place on Tuesday including at Gunnedah who are set to stake a seven-race card.

Race 4 Gunnedah

House Wins @ 6.00

Race 4 Ballina

Spiele @ 5.00

Race 6 Broome

Apple Schnapps @ 3.00

House for glory

The fifth race on the Gunnedah card is an eye-catching Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place over 2150m.

Apprentice Braith Nock gets the leg up on board Fusiachi Family who is expected to start favourite following a number of solid efforts this spell.

Those efforts include a fifth over 1600m when beaten less than two lengths in a Benchmark 66 handicap at Scone at the end of June.

While the mare has been unable to score in three starts since she went close when narrowly beaten in a 1500m Class 2 at Muswellbrook last Friday.

Turned out quickly here she has a wide alley to overcome and, while she has run well here in the past, preference is for HOUSE WINS who is dropping back in trip.

The veteran galloper failed to shine when seventh over 3120m in a Benchmark 58 handicap at Grafton a month ago.

The son of Dubleo had been in good form over around this distance prior, with his placed efforts in 2023 including a half-length defeat over 2050m here at the end of May

That outing came in a Benchmark 58 handicap and having placed in stronger company since, he is taken to register his seventh career win.

Spiele to salute

Smooth Torque is expected to have her supporters ahead of the fourth race at Ballina.

The race in question is a 1590m Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place on a soft 6 surface.

Trained by Matthew Dunn the filly showed good form in placing in maiden company in two of her first three starts this spell.

The second of those saw her beaten by a length over 1400m on a good 4 track at Sunshine Coast in June, while she registered a solid sixth in a metro event at Eagle Farm thereafter.

The drop back from 1600m appeared no issue when winning by a narrow margin on a soft 7 track in a 1310m maiden at Ballina subsequently.

The four-year-old remains open to improvement but has a wide barrier to overcome here and, while she holds strong claims, it can pay to look elsewhere.

SPIELE underwhelmed in her first three starts this spell but the switch to this venue appeared to suit when beaten by less than a length into third over 1260m here on 27th July.

The five-year-old caught the eye when finishing strongly on that occasion and, while she steps up in trip here, she shaped as if the extra distance would suit.

The daughter of Casino Prince had previously failed to shine when ninth over 1400m in a Benchmark 58 handicap at Grafton here earlier that month.

Apprentice Cobi Vitler takes four kilograms off and looks up to steering the mare to victory.

Schnapps for sprint success

The feature race on the Broome card is the 1300m Broome Sprint set to take place as the sixth race on a seven-race card.

Top weight APPLE SCHNAPPS has shown good form here in recent months including when finishing runner-up in a couple of Benchmark 70+ events.

The first of those saw the gelding lose out narrowly over this trip prior to a half-length second in a similar event over 1200m a month ago.

Trained by Aaron Pateman, the son of Alfred Nobel broke through for his first win since 2021 when registering a near two-length success over 1200m here just under three weeks ago.

The pick has a good barrier in four here and with Alan Kennedy up he looks capable of completing a double.
