Australian Racing: Ararat success awaits for Piwhane

There are four meetings set to take place on Monday including two fixtures from New South Wales.

Race 8 Ararat

Piwhane @ 5.00

Race 6 Taree

Isledon @ 5.50

Race 2 Sapphire Coast

Les Goh @ 2.60

Piwhane and Meech to salute

The finale on Ararat’s eight race card is a 1600m Benchmark 58 handicap set to take place on a soft 7 surface.

Jessica Booth’s mount Unfair Dismissal has been in good form in the main this spell, including when completing a double in scoring over 1728m at Sale in July.

The mare took out a Restricted 64 handicap by just under half-a-length that day and has placed in the top three in three of her four subsequent starts.

Two of those efforts came over the 1600m she tackles here, including when narrowly beaten in finishing runner-up in a Benchmark 64 handicap at Mornington earlier this month.

The soft 7 surface here is no issue having won in the conditions at Murtoa earlier this year and, while she has a good alley, PIWHANE is preferred with Linda Meech up.

The filly caught the eye when finishing strongly having been ridden from off the pace in a 1400m Restricted 64 handicap at Warrnambool last month.

The 5.00 selection was beaten two lengths into third on a good 4 track having jumped at big odds on that occasion.

However, the four-year-old failed to build on that effort when sixth following a slow start over 1512m at Geelong.

The pick shaped as if this distance would suit, having been forced to race wide at Murtoa three outings back on her only previous start at this distance.

Trainer Maddie Raymond boasts a 33% strike-rate (2/6) at this venue in the last 12 months and her representative here can help her improve on that record.

Isledon ready for Taree success

The penultimate contest on the Taree card is an interesting 1250m Benchmark 58 handicap contest for fillies & mares.

Miss Arizona failed to shine when racing at Kempsey on her penultimate start, but she returned to form when a good second at Grafton last time out.

The mare raced behind the speed in a 1006m Benchmark 58 handicap held on a good 4 track on that occasion and has a good barrier next to the rail here.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner wasn’t at her best when racing over this course and distance last December and the preference here is for ISLEDON.

The four-year-old appeared to appreciate racing over around this trip when leading from the front prior to deliver a near two-and-a-half-length victory at Muswellbrook last month.

The 5.50 selection tackled a Benchmark 58 handicap on a good 4 surface on that occasion and she had to race three wide when down the field over 1400m at Scone subsequently.

Jockey Anna Roper takes the ride for the first time and her mount looks capable of returning to winning ways.

Les to score at Sapphire Coast

Sapphire Coast are set to stage a seven-race card on a soft 6 track, with the second race on the card a 1600m Class 3 handicap.

Quayde Kogh’s mount LES GOH takes the eye here, with the 2.60 five-year-old having placed second in two of her four starts this spell.

The most recent of those saw her suffer a narrow defeat when contesting an 1800m Benchmark 66 handicap on a good 4 track at Gundagai on November 18th.

The daughter of Pendragon showed a liking for this track when placed in a maiden over course and distance in January and looks up to registering her third career win.
