Asian Cup: Socceroos could shuffle pack

The Socceroos have already secured a place in the last 16 of the Asian Cup and Graham Arnold could make changes for the clash with Uzbekistan.

Arnold’s men sit top of Group B with two wins, but they have been far from convincing against India and Syria.

Uzbekistan, who are undefeated, could be the toughest test yet and an upset win would see them leapfrog the Socceroos.

Australia are 1.33 to finish top of Group B, with Uzbekistan priced at 3.25.

All eyes will be on Arnold’s team selection, and he could decide to shuffle his pack.

Arnold demands improvement

The Socceroos have defeated India 2-0 and Syria 1-0, but coach Arnold is demanding an improvement against Uzbekistan.

Australia won the Asian Cup in 2015 but there is work to be done if they are to repeat the achievement.

They can be backed at 8.00 to win the Asian Cup, but Japan, South Korea and Iran are all fancied more as things stand.

Speaking after the win against Syria, Arnold insisted his side would not be ‘taking the foot off the gas’ and the aim will be to top the group.

A draw would be enough to get the job done, but the Socceroos will want to keep on winning and build momentum.

Uzbekistan have work to do

Uzbekistan are on four points following a win and a draw, but they are not yet guaranteed a place in the last 16.

A win would take them top of the group, while a draw would be enough to secure second spot.

However a defeat, coupled with Syria beating India, could see them miss out, so they have all to play for still.

It could result in them packing the defence and playing for a draw, and as we have already seen, the Socceroos struggle against such tactics.

If there is to be more of the same, then under 2.5 goals in the game can be backed at 1.47, while over is 2.60.

Arnold could make changes

Even though Arnold is keen to top the group, he could still change a winning side and give some players a much-needed run-out ahead of the last 16.

The likes of Bruno Fornaroli, Samuel Silvera and Riley McGree could all be pushing for a start after having to settle for a place on the bench.

Jackson Irvine has proved to be the hero in the Socceroos side after scoring a goal in each of the opening two games.

He grabbed the only goal against Syria and is priced at 7.00 to score at anytime.

Uzbekistan keep it tight

Uzbekistan have shown they can defend in this tournament and have yet to concede a goal.

They fought out a 0-0 draw with Syria, before beating India 3-0 in their second match. A point will be enough to see them through and they are likely to play for it.

Uzbekistan could look to hit on the counter and they shared the goals around against India.

Igor Sergeev was on the score sheet and is priced at 4.75 to score at anytime against the Socceroos.
