Golf: Aussie hopes for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

A unique tournament played on three iconic Scottish courses, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is a staple event on the DP World Tour.

Kingsbarns Golf Links, Carnoustie and the Old Course at St Andrews will host the competition which uses a pro-am format.

Each professional player is partnered by one amateur and the teams of two each play the three different links courses in rotation over Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The cut comes in after those three rounds, when the top 60 professionals and the top 20 teams progress to the final round on what is set to be another intriguing Sunday at St Andrews.

Here’s a closer at look at some of the Aussie participants and their chances at this prestigious event.

Jason Scrivener

The Australians are outsiders going into this week’s event with Jason Scrivener the shortest price at 176.00.

Scrivener, who turned professional back in 2010, played plenty of golf on the PGA Tour of Australasia before switching his focus to Europe.

Finishing second in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in 2021, Scrivener has previously shown he’s capable of stringing strong rounds together to compete for titles.

The 34-year-old will be looking for a similar display this week in Scotland to try and cause an upset on the final day at St Andrews.

Tom Power Horan

Melbourne’s Tom Power Horan has enjoyed a positive year with victory in The National Tournament presented by BMW being the highlight so far.

Power Horan impressed at the Moonah course on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula to claim the title and help secure his place on the DP World Tour.

Well down the order at 2501.00 in the outright market, Power Horan is certainly an underdog for the Dunhill Links Championship but will be hoping to be involved after the first three rounds.

David Micheluzzi

At odds of 276.00 David Micheluzzi is considered even more of an outsider for the title this week at the home of golf.

The Victorian tour pro is in the relatively early stages of his career and made his Major championship debut this year at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

Although he failed to make the cut, it will have been a great experience for Micheluzzi at Oak Hill and something that he can try and build on for the future.

This is another big week for Micheluzzi and it will be interesting to see how the 27-year-old Australian gets on at Kingsbarns Golf Links, Carnoustie and St Andrews alongside more big names in the sport.
