Cricket: Aussies starring in The Hundred

The Hundred is underway in England and there are a number of top Australian players looking to make their mark on the competition.

The Oval Invincibles currently top the ladder and are priced at 2.62 to go on and win it, but there is still a long way to go.

Australia are well represented in the competition, so let’s take a look at how some familiar names are shaping up.

Daniel Sams (Trent Rockets)

Out of all the Australians taking part in the Hundred, so far, Sams has been the best performer with bat and ball.

The all-rounder has played in five games so far, scoring 89 runs and taking seven wickets.

Sams’ best performance with the bat came in the match against Spirit when he scored 32 runs.

With the ball his best figures are 3-26, while he has also taken 2-28 and 2-35.

Matthew Wade (London Spirit)

The Australian wicketkeeper/batsman has played in four of the Spirit’s opening six games so far and has chipped in with some important runs.

London Spirit are currently fourth on the ladder after picking up two wins and Wade is playing his part. Spirit are 8.00 to win the Hundred.

Wade scored 42 runs as the Spirit beat the Chargers by 13 runs, while his second biggest knock was 37 against the Invincibles in the opening match.

Wade has also contributed 19 and 8 runs in the other two games he has featured in.

Nathan Ellis (London Spirit)

The fast bowler has also played in all six games for the Spirit so far, taking six wickets in total.

Ellis’s best figures have come in the two games against the Invincibles when he took 2-31 and 2-36. He has batted just once, scoring three runs.

Ashton Turner (Manchester Originals)

Turner has been putting in some solid performances with the bat to help Manchester Originals to third on the ladder.

The Perth Scorchers skipper has scored runs in each of his six appearances so far and is settling in nicely.

Turner has scored 69 runs so far, with his biggest knock of 21 coming in the clash against the Phoenix. The Originals can be backed at 3.50 to make the Hundred final.

Tim David (Southern Brave)

Southern Brave pulled out all the stops to get Tim David back on board for 2023 and so far he has managed to produce just the one big score.

David smashed 40 runs in the win over the Chargers, but has failed to reach double figures in his four other innings, scoring a total of 13 runs.

Southern Brave are sat second on the ladder and are 3.50 to make the final.

Kane Richardson (Birmingham Phoenix)

Birmingham Phoenix sit bottom of the ladder with just one win so far, but do have Australian fast bowler Kane Richardson in their ranks.

Richardson has taken five wickets across the four games he has been involved in and four of those came against the Invincibles.

He took 4-32 and then 1-5 in the next game against the Brave. In the other two games Richardson took 0-11 and 0-33.

Richardson has also scored eight runs with the bat.
