Cricket World Cup: Australia v Netherlands preview

Australia will be out to keep their recent revival at the Cricket World Cup going when they take on the Netherlands on Wednesday.

The Aussies got their campaign off to a shaky start with defeats against India and South Africa, but have since bounced back well.

Comfortable wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan have got them back on track and they are now the hot fancies to see off the Netherlands as well.

However there have already been a number of shocks at the tournament and there can be no room for complacency in the Aussie camp.

Australia are 5.00 to win the World Cup, with host nation India still the team to beat at 2.00.

Head pushing to return

Australia would be reluctant to change a winning team, but that is exactly what they will do once Travis Head is fit and ready to return.

The opening batsman is close to making a return from a broken hand, and chair of selectors George Bailey has revealed he will slot straight back in when fit.

That will mean a change at the top of the batting order, despite David Warner and Mitchell Marsh excelling against Pakistan.

The duo put on an opening partnership of 259 runs in the 62-run win over Pakistan, but Head will still return when he is ready.

It is thought the match against the Netherlands will come too soon, and Head will come back in to the side against New Zealand at the weekend.

That will mean Marsh being moved down the order, with reports claiming Marnus Labuschagne would be the player to make way.

Marcus Stoinis could be the other player to sit out, but he took two crucial wickets against Pakistan and should keep his place.

But for now Australia look set to stick with the same side that scored 367-9 off their fifty overs and then bowled out Pakistan for 305.

Warner continues to shine

Warner top scored with 163 runs off 124 deliveries and can be backed at 4.33 to be Australia’s Team – Top Batter on Wednesday.

Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers against Pakistan when taking 4-53 off his 10 overs.

The spinner is priced at 4.33 to be Team – Top Bowler, which Mitchell Starc available at 3.60.

Netherlands are a threat

The Netherlands have won just the one game at the World Cup so far, but it was a big one as they shocked South Africa.

They managed to win by 38 runs with Scott Edwards doing the damage with the bat. He scored 78 runs and can be backed at 6.00 to be Team – Top Batter.

The Netherlands slipped to a five-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka in their last game. They looked to have posted a competitive total of 262 runs, but Sri Lanka got there with 10 deliveries to spare.

Sybrand Engelbrecht scored 70 runs and has backed his side to get better as the World Cup progresses.
