Australian 2024 Major hopes

It was 2022 the last time a male Australian player managed to win a Major title and Aussies will be hoping they can end the wait for a title in at least one of the big four tournaments this year.

Here’s a look at some of the Australian players who have the capabilities of upsetting the apple cart and beating the big names from the United States and Europe to claim a Major title in 2024.

Cameron Smith

Best to start with that last Australian to win a Major title, with Cameron Smith hoping to add to his 2022 Open Championship crown this year.

The Queenslander, who now resides in Jacksonville, Florida, has been pretty consistent at the Majors over the last few years.

Tied second for the Masters in 2020, Smith has also finished fourth twice at the US Open (2015, 2023) and has tied for ninth at PGA Championship.

Having won his maiden Major at the Open Championship two years ago, Smith knows what it takes to finish top of the leaderboard come the final round.

Smith is available at 19.00 to win the first Major of 2024 at the US Masters at Augusta National, while he is 6.00 to claim any of the four Major titles this year.

Jason Day

Jason Day is still a man on a mission to add to his one Major title which he landed back in 2015 at the PGA Championship.

Winning in real style and moving at one stage to the top of the world rankings, it was expected that Day would go on and add to his Major tally over the years that followed.

However, that 2015 success at the PGA Championship remains Day’s only Major title.

The Queenslander has been open about his fitness issues and dealing with vertigo but the hope is there that if he can be in good health that he can end the wait for a second Major title this year.

Day is currently 11.00 to claim one of the four major titles in 2024, while he’s 36.00 to win the US Masters.

Min Woo Lee

A rising star in the Australian game, Min Woo Lee is certainly a player worth looking out for at the Majors this season.

With a tied-fifth finish at the US Open last year and a Scottish Open win back in 2021, there’s plenty of excitement about what the 25-year-old can do in 2024.

This charismatic star has been gaining plenty of supporters, while his sister Minjee Lee is also expected to be competing for Major women’s titles this year.

Min Woo Lee is 11.00 to win a major in 2024, while the man from Perth is 51.00 to claim the title at the US Masters in Georgia.
