Australian Racing: Albright to shine at Belmont Park

There’s plenty of metro action on Wednesday including from Sandown-Hillside where an eight-race card is scheduled.

Race 4 Sandown Hillside

Upwoods @ 5.00

Race 6 Belmont Park

Albright @ 8.50

Race 4 Wyong

Autumnmation @ 5.00

Upwoods for Hillside success

The fourth race of the day at Sandown-Hillside is a 2400m Benchmark 64 handicap contest.

A field of 12 are set to go to post with Samuel Langhorne expected to jump as favourite having placed on two of his three starts this prep.

The second of those efforts saw the gelding lose out by a narrow margin in a similar race to this over course and distance earlier this month.

The son of Shocking’s first-placed effort this time around also came here when third in a 1600m event when racing first up in January.

However, the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr-trained UPWOODS is preferred in this event, having recorded a number of solid maiden efforts prior to saluting last time.

The selection lost out by a narrow margin when contesting a 2600m maiden at Ballarat last month.

The gelding raced on a good 4 track on that occasion and encountered similar going when racing on the pace prior to delivering a victory at Pakenham on 7th March.

The pick came home five-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals when sent off a $1.35 favourite for a 2550m maiden event on that occasion.

The four-year-old gets in off a fair weight in this contest and jumping from barrier three, looks capable of following up with Damian Lane again in the saddle.

Albright to score at Belmont Park

The sixth race of the day at Belmont Park is a 1200m handicap event with Siberian Siren likely to feature towards the head of the market.

Madi Derrick’s mount failed to shine when last of six over 1000m at Ascot on her penultimate start but had won over the same track and trip prior.

The three-year-old returned to form with a close second when jumping at odds of $31 for the Listed Magic Millions AW 3yo Trophy over 1200m at Pinjarra last month.

The filly delivered a career best effort that day, however, she isn’t certain to replicate that effort in this contest.

A wide barrier is a further negative for the youngster and with that in mind, ALBRIGHT is selected to record her second career success.

The four-year-old showed good form when losing out by a narrow margin in a 1200m Class 1 handicap held on a good 4 track at Belmont Park last month.

The pick was returning from a spell on that occasion and, while she could finish only sixth at Pinjarra Scarpside subsequently, she jumped from a wide barrier that day.

The barrier allocation will see Jason Miller’s runner jump from barrier five here and she looks up to saluting with Chris Parnham booked to ride.

Autumnmation to triumph at Wyong

The fourth race on the Wyong card is a 1600m maiden handicap set to take place on a soft 5 surface.

Chris Waller’s AUTUMNMATION takes the eye here following placed efforts in metro maiden races on both starts since a fourth at Canterbury last month.

The pick was beaten less than one-and-a-half-lengths when contesting a 1400m maiden at Randwick Kensington on her penultimate start

The daughter of The Autumn Sun proved that effort was no fluke when losing out by a narrow margin over 1500m at Rosehill on 28th February.

Notably that Rosehill second came on a soft 5 track and with a good barrier here she looks up to breaking her maiden in this race.
