Australian Racing: Atlantic Eagle can soar at Doomben

There’s plenty of action for punters to get involved with this Saturday including at Caulfield where the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes provides the highlight.

Race 8 Rosehill

Barbie’s Fox @ 4.80

Race 3 Doomben

Ingratiating to take Bletchingly

The previously mentioned Bletchingly Stakes over 1200m is expected to see It’sourtime and Ingratiating vie for favouritism.

It’sourtime has run well at this venue in the past including when placing in Group 2 and Group 3 company here as a three-year-old.

The gelding raced at a lower level for much of 2022 however but has shaped as if a return to Group company is in order when racing at Flemington this spell.

The most recent of the five-year-old’s four starts at Flemington, from five outings in total in 2023 saw him deliver a second place finish over this trip in the Listed Santa Ana Lane Sprint Final.

That contest saw the gelding perform best of those racing from off the pace with just the front-running Mnementh in front of him and a one-and-a-half-length gap back to the third.

Trained by Danny O’Brien It’sourtime is a versatile type tactics wise while the switch to a good 4 track should prove no issues despite racing on soft going for much of this spell.

However preference is for INGRATIATING who represents 2020’s winning trainer James Cummings.

The pick hasn’t won since delivering a length victory in an 1100m handicap on a heavy 9 track at Caulfield in September however it’s notable that his defeats have often come in stronger contests.

Those defeats included a second in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield and down the field finishes in valuable events The Everest and The Hunter.

The four-year-old returned with a fifth in the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield earlier this month and that effort should have put him spot on for this contest.

Fox for Winter glory

The eighth race on the Rosehill card is the Listed Toyota Winter Challenge over 1500m.

A soft 5 track is expected with Resonator expected to have his supporters having won two of his last three starts.

The most recent of those victories saw the three-year-old take out a Benchmark 72 event over this track and trip at the start of the month.

A narrow defeat in a 1400m Benchmark 78 handicap at Randwick followed with both of those efforts coming on a good 4 track.

The gelding has won on wet tracks in the past however the three-year-old is expected to find the mare BARBIE’S FOX too strong.

Trained by Ben & JD Hayes the selection was a winner against her own sex in a Benchmark 78 handicap over 1300m at Sandown Hillside back in April.

The six-year-old has placed on two of her four subsequent starts while she was beaten less than two lengths when fourth in the Listed Winter Stakes over 1400m at Randwick two weeks ago.

The soft 5 surface here is no issue and having finished well when coming from off the pace at Randwick she looks capable of delivering a victory having run well over further in the past.

Eagle to salute at Doomben

ATLANTIC EAGLE takes the eye in the 2020m Benchmark 90 handicap that is set to take place as the third race at Doomben.

The selection registered her third win of the year when successful by nearly a length in a 2000m Benchmark 70 handicap on a soft 5 track here earlier this month.

The five-year-old was stepping up markedly in distance on that occasion and delivered a career best in the style of a horse who had more to come over the trip.

Trained by Paul Duncan the mare steps up in grade here but gets in off a nice low weight and with a good barrier the tactically versatile mare is taken to complete a double.
