There are five meetings set to take place on Wednesday including at Geelong where the Group 3 Geelong Cup is the highlight.
Birdman @ 5.50
Need Some Luck @ 5.00
Snippy Sean @ 2.70
The previously mentioned Group 3 Geelong Cup comes up as the seventh race on a nine-race card at Geelong.
Chris Waller’s Unusual Legacy is expected to prove popular in the 2400m handicap contest, having performed well on all four starts this prep.
Those efforts include a win by a length when contesting an 1800m Benchmark 88 handicap at Rosehill three starts back.
A good second when racing on a soft 6 surface at the same track followed, prior to stepping up to Group 1 company for the James Squire Metropolitan at Randwick earlier this month.
The five-year-old was beaten just over three-and-a-half-lengths when third over 2400m on that occasion and he rates highly, racing off a nice weight here.
Stablemate BIRDMAN is preferred on this occasion however, with the gelding having demonstrated good form in his four starts in Europe.
Those starts include a third when beaten just over two lengths in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot in June.
Birdman raced on a good 4 track that day but should have no issue with the softer going expected here, having won on wet tracks in Ireland on his first two starts.
The winner of the previously mentioned Queen’s Vase has gone on to acquit himself well in Group 1 company with the selection remaining open to improvement.
A drop back in distance shouldn’t pose any issues racing first up this prep and Beau Mertens’ mount looks capable of making his first start for the Waller team a winning one.
The fifth race on the Warwick Farm card is a 1400m Benchmark 78 handicap set to take place on a soft 5 track.
French Endeavour is expected to jump as favourite here, having shown up well in two starts this prep including when runner-up here first up.
The daughter of Rubick went on to record her first win of 2024 when saluting by nearly two lengths in a Benchmark 78 handicap when racing on Randwick’s Kensington track two weeks ago.
Matthew Smith’s representative has the services of James McDonald, as was the case at Randwick and, while she rates highly, NEED SOME LUCK is the pick in this event.
The four-year-old has shown a liking for this venue in the past, placing third in a 1300m Benchmark 72 handicap here in June.
Need Some Luck was spelled following that effort and he has placed second in both starts since returning to action last month.
The most recent of those efforts saw him beaten three lengths into second when contesting a Benchmark 72 handicap on a soft 7 track at Rosehill at the start of this month.
Need Some Luck raced over 1200m at Rosehill and is expected to appreciate the step up to 1400m he gets here.
Peter Snowden’s gelding has a good jockey in Tommy Berry up and looks capable of defying a wide barrier to record the third win of his career.
The fifth race on the Belmont card is a 1600m Class 1 handicap event set to take place on a soft 5 track.
Daniel Morton is represented by SNIPPY SEAN here, with the gelding having won at this venue last month when making his third start this prep.
That victory came when contesting a 1400m event on a good 4 surface, with the gelding finishing strongly to salute by just under half-a-length.
Two good efforts in defeat have followed, with the first of those a second when narrowly beaten in a Bunbury Class 1 handicap over the same distance at the end of last month.
This son of Snippetson stepped up to 1600m for the first time when beaten just over a length into fourth in a Class 3 handicap, when racing on a good 4 track at Ascot a week ago.
The slightly softer going expected here is no issue and Chris Parnham’s mount is taken to register his second career win.
