Australian Racing: Breadcrumbs to be too strong

There are three meetings due to take place on Tuesday with a good 4 track at Mackay and wet tracks expected at Ballarat and Kembla Grange.

Race 1 Kembla Grange

Breadcrumbs @ 2.40

Race 3 Ballarat

Doubting Eye @ 6.50

Race 4 Mackay

Five Bulls @ 4.20

Breadcrumbs to break maiden

The opener at Kembla Grange is an interesting 1000m maiden contest. The race has attracted a field of eight including Benjamin Smith’s She’s Jessie who has been narrowly beaten in her two starts this spell.

Those efforts include a third place finish over 1100m at Gosford on March 16. The front running daughter of Territories has raced on soft tracks on both starts this spell and showed she handled a heavy 8 surface when runner-up at Benchmark 58 level last September.

With speed drawn inside her however she is expected to find Breadcrumbs, who is likely to be ridden with more restraint too strong here.

The selection has finished in the first three in five of her eight starts to date including when runner-up in both outings this time around.

While the pick contested a 900m maiden on a good 4 track at Newcastle when last in action earlier this month, she has shown she handles further in the past.

The Headwater fillies' previous efforts include a good third when beaten less than two lengths over 1200m on a soft 7 track at Echuca in July last year.

The selection has drawn the rail here and with options from the barriers is taken to get off the mark at the ninth attempt.

Eye for Ballarat glory

Pantelone is expected to jump as favourite for the powerful James Cummings stable in the third race on the Ballarat card, an 1100m maiden contest.

The two-year-old placed second on his first two outings including when narrowly beaten having raced from the front over 1200m at Pakenham on a good 4 surface last month. The son of Pantelone was ridden with slightly more restraint when finishing fourth over 1000m here last time out and is set to tackle a wet track for the first time in this contest.

The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jr team were on the mark in the Sunlight Classic at Flemington on Saturday and their representative Doubting Eye is the selection here. The son of Not A Single doubt finished down the field having raced prominently in a 1000m contest at Cranbourne when making his debut in November.

The pick took a marked step forward when beaten a length into second at Morphetville Parks when tackling the same trip earlier this month, however. Returning from a spell on that occasion he looks capable of breaking his maiden at the third time of asking.

Bulls to score at Mackay

Five Bulls looks capable of delivering a victory for the Clinton Taylor stable in the fourth race on the Mackay card, an 1100m Class 1 contest.

The pick broke his maiden over this trip on a good 4 track at Bendigo back in November 2021 and has acquitted himself well in the main in seven subsequent starts.

Those starts include a narrow second when racing in this grade over this trip at Rockhampton on his return to action last month.

That Rockhampton effort came on a soft 5 surface and while the son of Stratum disappointed over 1050m at the same venue subsequently that did come at Benchmark 65 level. Jason Taylor, on board for both of those efforts is again in the saddle and the pair look up to taking this contest.
