Australian Racing: Burraneer Buoy to outshine Lady

There’s just the two meetings due to take place on Monday with Beaumont and Dubbo staging country racing.

Race 4 Beaumont

Burraneer Buoy @ 3/1

Race 1 Beaumont

Kyanite @ 17/2

Race 5 Dubbo

Larynx @ 3/1

Buoy for Beaumont glory

The fourth at Beaumont is an intriguing 1150m Class 1 handicap contest. Lady Fraulein showed good form in maiden company on wet tracks last spell, placing three times from four starts.

However, the daughter of Panzer Division appeared to appreciate the switch to a sound surface when a two length winner over 1250m in a Taree maiden on a good 4 track earlier this month.

Similar underfoot conditions are forecast here with the shorter distance unlikely to prove an issue.

Burraneer Buoy has run well at this level in the past, however, and is preferred on this occasion. Todd Howlett’s charge registered a two-and-a-half-length victory in a maiden over 1200m at Tamworth at the end of August.

This was followed up with a good second on a heavy 10 track in a 1300m Class 1 contest. The selection comes into this race on the back of a couple of trials earlier this month, including a victory over 900m at Muswellbrook, and looks capable of registering a second career success.

Kyanite to spring upset

A field of eight are set for the Beaumont opener, a 2100m Benchmark 58 contest. Unzaga looks likely to jump as an odds-on favourite having followed up a Class 1 win over this trip at Tamworth with two fourth place finishes.

Handles the forecast good for going and performed well when beaten one-and-a-half-lengths over 1750m in a Muswellbrook Class 2 earlier this month. Extra distance here is no issue for Aaron Bullock’s mount but he may find Kyanite, who has been running well at this Benchmark 58 level, too strong.

Georgia Dobie’s mount has been beaten half-a-length in Benchmark 58 events on her two most recent starts. The second of those came on a good 4 surface at Port Macquarie earlier this month.

Versatile tactics wise Carmen Murnane’s gelding has a far kinder draw than when drawing barrier 13 at Port Macquarie and he is taken to deliver a third career success.

Larynx to score for Thompson

Paul Messara’s Angelical has won four of her six previous starts and is expected to have her supporters ahead of the fifth at Dubbo. The race in question is a 1300m handicap event with a good 4 surface expected.

The four-year-old ended her last spell with a half-length victory in a Class 3 event on a soft 5 surface over 1450m at Muswellbrook at the start of July. The drop back to 1300m is a concern here having suffered a defeat when fourth over 1280m at Muswellbrook first up last spell.

With that in mind the experienced Larynx is selected to deliver an eighth career success. The pick has shown good placed form in recent starts including when a close second in a 1280m event on a soft 5 track at Orange just over two weeks ago.

The other main possible pace angle in the race Lockdown Gamble is drawn outside of Brett Thompson’s charge. Taking that into account he should have no issue getting over to the rail to race prominently as has been the case of late.

Crucially Larynx has shown a liking for this course and distance in the past, winning half of his four starts over the 1300m here. Jockey Clayton Gallagher is a positive booking here and he is taken to help the selection improve on his impressive track and trip record.
