Charlemagne can Showcase his talents

The $75,000 Moruya Showcase Cup carries Big Dance eligibility and is the highlight on the Moruya card.

The 1425m open handicap comes up as the penultimate race on an eight-race schedule and is expected to take place on a good 4 track.

Nick Olive’s Toes In The Water is expected to jump as favourite, having taken a step forward when racing at Kembla Grange last time.

The four-year-old resumed with a fifth of seven at Canberra in November prior to being beaten a length in a 1400m Benchmark 64 handicap last month.

The filly showed good form in winning in metro company at Rosehill at the end of June and her supporters will be hoping she is ready to strike third up with regular rider Coriah Keatings up.

Trainer Danielle Seib has been in great form in recent weeks and her CHARLEMAGNE is the selection here.

The gelding returned form a short break with a close second-place finish in a 1300m Benchmark 82 handicap held on a good 4 track at Orange in November.

The 9.00 pick duly went one better when saluting by a length in a 1200m handicap held on a soft 6 surface at Canberra the following month.

Pierre Boudvillain, on board for both of those efforts and when two lengths fifth in the 1300m TAB Federal at Canberra last time out, is again set to ride in this contest.

Barrier three is a positive for the selection, who is taken to record his eighth career win on his first start at this venue.

Santorini Sun to shine at Moruya

Earlier on the Moruya card the third race is a 1010m Benchmark 58 handicap event.

Top weight Russian Assassin is expected to have his supporters as he rerurns to this venue having placed twice here last prep.

The second of those efforts saw the gelding beaten just over a length in finishing runner-up in a 1020m Class 2 handicap in early August.

The five-year-old boasts a good draw and showed solid form when runner-up over 1000m at Gundagai when racing first up this prep.

However, Lauri Parker’s representative failed to shine at Hawkesbury subsequently and SANTORINI SUN is preferred on this occasion.

Trained by Natalie Jarvis, the mare registered a number of efforts on wet tracks here last prep, with the best of them seeing her finish third over 1200m in May last year.

The 6.50 daughter of Choisir resumed with a mid-division finish when jumping at $13 for a 1000m Benchmark 55 handicap at Canberra a month ago.

The pick took a marked step forward when losing out by less than half-a-length over 1100m in a similar race to this at Bathurst subsequently.

The mare shouldn’t have too many issues dropping slightly in distance and she is taken to register a win under Shaun Guymer.

Autofocus set to return with a win

At Tamworth the fifth race on the card is a 1000m Class 1 handicap expected to take place on a good 4 track.

AUTOFOCUS showed solid form here last prep, including when debuting with a fourth in a 1200m maiden contest.

A victory by one-and-a-half-lengths when stepped up to 1300m at Moree followed prior to her narrowly failing to complete a double when runner-up in a Class 1 handicap back at this venue.

While Melanie O’Gorman’s 3.80 filly hasn’t been in race action since finishing second over 1400m at Wellington at the end of May, although she did have two barrier trials in November.

The four-year-old recorded a win at Scone in the first of those, prior to finishing just over one-and-a-half-lengths back when fifth here subsequently.

Siena Grima takes two kilograms off the pick’s back and racing on her home track she is taken to resume with a win.
