Australian Racing: Cluster’s Rein to prevail at Kilcoy

There are four meetings set to take place on Friday including at Tamworth where a nine-race program is scheduled.

Race 7 Tamworth

Purple Esprit @ 8.00

Race 8 Goulburn

Take Me To Church @ 5.50

Race 6 Kilcoy

Cluster’s Rein @ 3.50

Purple to triumph at Tamworth

The seventh race at Tamworth is a competitive looking 1200m Benchmark 58 handicap due to take place on a soft 5 track.

Dylan’s Lad won at Mudgee in September and has placed in the top four in all three subsequent starts.

The three-year-old is expected to jump as favourite on his first start since joining the Cody Morgan stable.

The youngster had a couple of barrier trials prior to recording a solid fourth at Kembla Grange last month when making his first appearance following a spell.

The son of Shalaa was beaten less than two lengths when contesting a 1200m Class 1 handicap that day and the quicker going expected here is no issue.

PURPLE ESPRIT is preferred on this occasion however, having demonstrated good form in three starts to date.

The pick followed up a debut second at Goondiwindi in April with a victory in a five-runner maiden contest at Armidale 12 days later.

Purple Esprit raced on a soft 6 track at Armidale and was freshened prior to making her first start against winners at the same venue on 28th May.

Racing on a soft 5 surface the selection was beaten one-and-a-half-lengths into second that day.

The form of that event is working out well with the fourth, eighth and ninth all registering subsequent victories.

Jockey Ella Drew takes four-kilograms off the selection’s back here and her mount is selected to score on his first attempt at this 1200m distance.

Church for Goulburn glory

The finale at Goulburn is a 1300m Benchmark 88 handicap event.

A soft 7 surface is expected for the race, with the twice-raced Big Bay Wolf expected to have his supporters for trainer John O’Shea.

The three-year-old made two starts in his first prep racing, finishing a promising five-lengths third in a 1200m maiden at Kembla Grange on debut.

Big Bay Wolf duly broke his maiden when racing from the front in a small field 1400m event at Hawkesbury next time.

Both of those races took place on a sound surface and, having been gelded since that effort, he looks worth opposing in this field.

TAKE ME TO CHURCH made the perfect start to his racing career when debuting with a victory in a 1200m maiden at Beaumont in December.

The selection finished strongly when racing on a soft 7 track that day and finished sixth on both subsequent starts.

Both of those subsequent efforts came on good 4 tracks, including when fading having tracked the speed when sixth over 1600m at Warwick Farm in January.

The youngster had been beaten less than three lengths when racing from off the pace in a 1300m Benchmark 64 handicap prior to that.

This return to a wet track is expected to suit and, with Keagan Latham booked to ride, the Richard & Will Freedman-trained youngster is taken to return to winning ways.

Cluster’s to salute at Kilcoy

The sixth race of the day at Kilcoy is a 1500m Restricted 58 handicap event.

CLUSTER’S REIN is the pick to register a victory with a good 4 track expected.

Trained by Kathy Stabe the gelding has shown good form in both starts at this venue this prep.

The first of those saw him lose out by one-and-a-half-lengths in a similar race to this over track and trip early last month.

While the pick could finish only eighth at Warwick subsequently, he registered a length success when returning to this venue on 2nd June.

The selection came home a length clear of his rivals when contesting a Class 2 handicap held on a soft 7 surface that day.

Michael Hellyer’s mount has a good barrier here and, while any softening of the going would aid his chance, he looks capable of returning to winning ways.
