Australian Racing: Decisive Lass focused on Wyong win

There are five meetings set to take place on Thursday, including at Wyong where an eight-race card is scheduled.

Race 6 Wyong

Decisive Lass @ 5.50

Race 5 Warrnambool

Peaky Ridge @ 6.50

Race 2 Sapphire Coast

Pushalot @ 3.40

Decisive Lass to return with win

The sixth race at Wyong is a 1000m Benchmark 68 handicap set to take place on a good 4 surface.

Nathan Doyle-trained Reigning King is the winner of two of his four starts this prep and is expected to jump a short-priced favourite.

Those two wins include a track and trip success in a Benchmark 64 handicap when racing second up.

A success dropped to 900m for a similar contest at Newcastle followed, with the gelding then stepped up markedly in grade at Eagle Farm.

The four-year-old jumped at $26 for a Benchmark 80 handicap with the drop in grade a positive in this contest.

Receiving weight DECISIVE LASS is preferred on this occasion, having gone well when beaten one-and-a-half-lengths into third when racing at Nowra first up last prep.

Decisive Lass contested a 1100m Class 1 handicap that day and was freshened and dropped back to this distance when saluting at Goulburn in June.

That Goulburn success saw the five-year-old come home half-a-length clear of her rivals when contesting a Benchmark 58 handicap on a soft 7 surface.

The quicker going here is no issue, with Brad Widdup’s mare unexposed at this distance, with that Goulburn effort just her third outing over 1100m or less.

This daughter of Inference has Zac Waddick, on board last time out, up once more and jumping from barrier five she is taken to resume with a win.

Peaky Ridge for Warrnambool victory

They are set to race on a good 4 track at Warrnambool with the fifth race of the day a 2350m Benchmark 58 handicap.

With two runners in the race, including expected favourite Blazing Guru, trainer Symon Wilde looks to hold a strong hand.

The daughter of Gallant Guru has shown improvement with racing since resuming with a fifth in a 1400m maiden at this venue last month.

A third-place finish over 1700m when racing on a good 4 track here followed, prior to her breaking through for her first win at Horsham last time out.

The five-year-old came home three-and-a-half-lengths clear of her rivals, when racing over 2100m for the first time that day.

While the extra distance here is unlikely to pose an issue, she tackles a tougher contest here and with that in mind preference is for PEAKY RIDGE.

Peter Chow’s representative has placed second in each of her last two starts, including when contesting a Benchmark 58 handicap at Swan Hill last month.

Peaky Ridge followed that effort up with a runner-up finish when stepped up to 2600m for a Benchmark 64 handicap at Ballarat two weeks ago.

The four-year-old had a useful enough rival ahead of her that day, with the form working out well thanks to subsequent wins for the fourth and fifth.

Jarrod Fry knows the filly well and, while a wide barrier isn’t ideal, his mount drops in grade here and looks capable of recording her second win at this venue.

Pushalot to record Sapphire Coast success

The second race at Sapphire Coast sees John Nisbet’s PUSHALOT return to action in a 1000m Class 1 handicap.

This four-year-old recorded placed efforts on each of her first four starts, including when beaten half-a-length over 1000m on a soft 6 track at Corowa at the start of July.

Pushalot showed good speed from an inside barrier, breaking her maiden when contesting a 1280m on the synthetic track at Canberra Acton nine days later.

The daughter of Sir Prancealot shaped as if she would have no issue with a drop back in distance when winning on that occasion.

Jack Martin knows the filly well and jumping from next to the rail, his mount looks capable of resuming with a win on her return to turf.
