Australian Racing: Diasonic fancied first-up

There’s six race meetings for punters to look at on Friday including metro action from Launceston.

Race 5 Cranbourne

Diasonic @ 7/1

Race 7 Launceston

Bello Beau @ 8/5

Race 7 Rockhampton

Highground @ 10/11

Diasonic to return with a victory

Alphaville is likely to jump as favourite in the fifth at Cranbourne. Celine Gaudray takes the ride in the 1400m Benchmark 58 contest with a good 4 track forecast. Gaudray was on board the gelding when he impressed in winning over 1500m at Mornington earlier this month.

Successful by four-and-a-half-lengths at Restricted 58 level that day he has finished in the first two in five of his last six starts. Diasonic is preferred in this contest however with the top weight resuming following a break.

Freedman’s He Is to score at Doomben

Richard Laming’s gelding failed to score last spell but did manage four top three finishes from eight outings. The pick has won first up in the past including over this trip at Sapphire Coast in January last year.

The six-year-old ended his last spell with a good second over 1700m in a Class 4 at Gold Coast. The trip and forecast going are both in his favour here while he is the winner of his only previous start at this venue. Well drawn in two Thomas Stockdale looks up to partnering the son of Reset to a first up triumph.

Beau to score at Launceston

With three last start winners in the field the 1200m Ladbrokes Stakes at Launceston looks a competitive affair. The race is set to take place as the seventh race on a nine race card with Turk Warrior expected to have his supporters.

Glenn Stevenson’s charge registered fourth place finishes on his first two starts this spell. The second of those came over this course and distance on a good 4 surface. Had a number of his rivals here behind him that day including Liffeybeau and Julius.

Softer going forecast here is no issue having won twice on wet tracks in the past while a draw in three is a positive. The four-year-old is expected to find Bello Beau too strong on this occasion however. Adam Trinder’s charge has won six of his nine previous starts including three times this spell.

All three of those victories this time around have come at this venue including by four-and-a-half-lengths over 1400m here last month. Subsequently suffered a narrow defeat in the 1600m Tasmanian Guineas at Hobart. Untested on going softer than a good 4 he should handle it with an ease in a class a positive in this contest.

While a draw in 11 isn’t ideal given his style of racing he has the services of Harry Coffey in the saddle. Looks capable of registering a victory down in trip receiving weight from his older rivals.

Highground to return to winning ways

The finale at Rockhampton is an interesting Benchmark 58 contest. The race is set to take place over 1300m with Highground rating a worthy favourite following a couple of good efforts this spell.

The first of those came when delivering a length-and-a-half victory in a 1300m Class 1 on a soft 5 track here last month. Came within a length of following up when beaten at Class 2 level over the same track and trip subsequently. That latest effort came on a good 4 surface with similar going expected here.

Nick Walsh’s charge goes well while the booking of Ryan Wiggins is a positive with regards his chances. The son of Cluster has run well over further in the past and is taken to register a third career win.
